Insurance
« on: June 24, 2016, 07:22:02 pm »
Hi all,

Just have a question regarding insurance for a 65 mustang. I have always loved the car and I'm luckily in a position to buy 1 for around the 35k -40k mark. But I can't seem to get an insurance quote online. What is the insurance and rego costs on these mustangs? I want full comprehensive insurance. Just seeing if it's something that I can afford. Thank you in advance

Check with Ryno ,Lumley (LSV )  And Shannons for starters . I can't help you with rego costs as each state is different and sometimes depends on a 6 cyl or a V8 . Full rego or club rego makes a huge difference for rego and insurance costs

Club rego is a lot cheaper and insurance is a lot cheaper if on club rego.

Insurance is also cheaper if the car is a weekend cruiser rather than daily driver, through Shannons.

My '68 coupe is insured for $35K and has full NSW registration. Annual costs are: registration $347, CTP green slip $480 and
full insurance with Shannons $530.  :smile01:

The rate will also depend on your age, location, car, etc. Make sure you shop them all for the best deal. The best rate for my Mustang is from Ryno and the best rate for my Torana is from Lumley (LSV).

As for rego costs - in NSW if you go for full normal rego, expect to pay around $1,000 for CTP Green Slip and Rego fees. If your car is "period correct" and you're a member of MOCA, strongly consider going on CRS rego. Allows 60 days unrestricted use per year, plus Club Runs and will cost $96 for CTP Green Slip and Reto. Will also reduce cost of your comprehensive insurance (mine dropped by nearly $300 when I switched over).

+1 for Ryno: premiums are based on usage (laid up, limited, full use, etc.) and there is a discount if the car is on club plates.

Shannons are not as flexible and not cheap in my experience.

My mustangs are with Ryno but my house is with Shannons . Shannons just kept putting the price up for my mustangs even being with them for many many years about 15 years ,and not one claim  I think they are loosing from me not insuring my 3 cars and only my house .

Hi all, thank you for your response.
How do you go onto club rego? I don't think I'll be driving more than 60 times a year anyways, as it will be a weekend car.

Btw I'm 35 years old and it will be a V8 not a 6
