'69 Mach 1 H/M code (small block) prices
« on: May 20, 2016, 01:18:51 am »
Looking at the current local Aussie market for these and trying to decide whether it has softened a little this year.

Back when I sold mine in January there were only a few advertised and anything decent looking they were asking over $50K.  Now it seems like there are a few more on the market and you could pick up a reasonable car for mid to high 40's...

Anybody bought/sold one recently with some feedback on current sale prices?

Hard to say really  I have seen a few what I think  are good buys but what are the cars really like .  The 69 Mach 1 that 69ish posted not long ago has SOLD and it wasn't cheap and only took a few weeks to sell .  So good cars do sell and pull big dollars . The prices in the USA have gone up and still going up and if you want one you have to pay more for recent imports but might get a good deal for one that has been here for a while .

Yeah, just saw a couple of new listings with asking prices of $50K and $55K that look to be quite decent from the photos.  I would imagine those prices could be negotiated down to mid to high 40's if the owners are keen to sell.

Maybe there's just some general lag between the dollar movements and Aussie prices -  I reckon we were slow to lift local prices when the dollar went bad and then slow again to put them up when the dollar improved a bit.

Having said that, now it looks like the friggin' currency is on the slide again...  :ouch:

When I bought my '70, I looked at what was available on the market, my experience, the cheaper you go on the buy price, the more your likely to spend to get it to the standard you want, good cars and original cars I would say $50k - $65k, they all look good in photo's.

I have seen this car, whilst not a mach 1, its a very good and very tidy car owned by a MOCA NSW member, it was on a run with us last weekend and presents really well for the money, would be worth considering.

Not particularly looking to buy, just keeping tabs on the local market out of interest.

The one you linked to certainly looks like a tidy car.  Unfortunately not being a Mach 1 hurts its value, even though the mechanical/interior spec is just as good or better that's just the way the market is.

After searching for my '70 Mach for around 8 years or so, travelling interstate and to the U.S, you get what you pay for. Having looked at over 30 cars, I finally found one good enough for my standards.

99% of 69-70 Mach 1's  advertised for 40-45k are very average in my opinion. Then there are the dreamers asking 100k for small block cars.....what they are advertised at and what they sell for are two different things.

Its a market that is fighting itself...

Globally prices for good cars are up.  But as the local economy sucks, less folks here have "toy money", which drives local demand and prices down.

Quality (true collectables) car prices are holding or rising, a bit.  But the "middle of the pack" cars are a bit stagnant price-wise, or slumping slightly due to a glut of cars on the market, from what I've seen in the last 6-9 months.

Exactly the reason for starting this thread!  :thumb:

We can all see what they list for, I'm keen to know if anyone has personal experience of buying/selling a good driver quality Mach 1 small block in the last few months.

What I have noticed is that US sellers typically list their cars at sky high prices in the expectation of getting beaten down by the buyers.  Here in Oz we more often tend to set the price at a number pretty close to what we actually want...

Thanks for the link - seems like a reasonable price for what it is.  Would be handy to know how much restoration it will require in terms of interior and mechanicals to figure out the 'ready to go cruising' price.

As far as I am concerned a good 69 Mach 1 H code or a M code starts at a min of 50 grand and up to 70 grand . Sure you might buy Australia's best for over 70 but that is really top dollar . I think 60k is a good price for a good car .  Good Mach 1 mustangs are still selling with no problems at prices north of 50 grand .

Yes that 69 for 40 grand is over priced  by the look of the photo . It looks like it needs a lot of work .

Well one thousand dollars for each year ,so its a 69 so 69 thousand sounds right  So that makes a 70 in the same condition , would be 70 thousand ,hmm sounds about right  :thumb:

Just about every second listing on that website is an obvious scam.  Beats me why they don't try and clean it up a bit...
