so - about a year ago I bought a new set of Ford Racing 3:73 gears for my '02 Cobra. A few months ago I got them installed at a local (highly recommended) diff specialist, and they rebuilt the LSD clutches and did all the bearings.
The 3.73:1 gears all great, loads of extra 'go' but at around 90kph they have started to whine under slight load - back off and the noise disappears. This is the 3rd rear end that they're rebuilt for me (not this car), and this is the first I've had an issue with.
The issue is, because I bought the gears, the rebuilder (rightly) said at the start that they wouldn't warrant the rebuild against noisy gears as they didn't supply the gears and it's apparently a common problem with aftermarket gears. So, it is pissing me off as the noise is more prevalent than it was a month ago, and I'm worried that it may continue to get worse.
Any thoughts - should I chose a different manufacturers gears - if so which one?
Should I go to a different builder, if so, which one? (I'm in the SE suburbs of Melbourne)
Are these gears saveable (as they weren't noisy to begin with?) or are they toast?
Should I just turn up the radio/roll down the window and ignore it?
Thoughts on a postcard to......
