Space saver
« on: January 15, 2016, 06:01:58 pm »
This subject has most probably been discussed previously.
Have a 67 fastback that needs to have a spare. With the small
area in the boot, I was considering whether someone can
Advise if space savers are avaliable for these models & obviously
Where can I get one  or what options are avaliable.
Can someone please advise

Regards Theo

I'm about to start searching for a 4 stud rim so our wheel workshop can make a space saver rim up for me to try. I figure if they can build up trailer, truck, mining and earthmoving rims it's an easy crossover.

Mazda 5 stud is same stud pattern as ford.  Have used a ford wheel on a couple mazda's (mx5, RX7 and mazda3); just need to check load ratings

Also buy a can of the inflatable stuff that you can use to pump your tyre up if you get a flat. Mine is called "Pump My Ride" and I got it at Supercheap.

Wouldn't any modern wheel, Falcon or Jap, have the wrong offset, or wouldn't that matter?

Two problems 1 st yes the offset make sure it fits before you buy,  2nd ,  try and get the same hight as what's on the car now and if you car has a LSD diff its a must .

Wouldn't think offset comes into play with a true space saver....  way too skinny for offset to be an issue.

Maybe not a problem .  Even a early 5 inch mustang rim with a small tyre might do the job . A space saver rim might be around 3 1/2 wide at a guess .

Space savers have a speed limit; they're only to be used to get you home or safe location to replace the tyre; only intended for very limited use so they don't have to be so precise but yeah, they do have to fit and not interfere with panels/components.

I have the Mazda space saver in my 68 FB. From memory cost about $30 on Ebay and picked up from a wrecker.
