Hi all looking at fitting a petronix igniter to my 66 fastback has a 289 with standard ditsy, repro yellow top coil, 2barell etc... want to keep it all period correct has anyone had any experience, do I buy igniter 1 or 2.

The Pertronix I is fine as long as you don't leave your key in the run position with the engine off.
If you have a huge cam, you would benefit from the III unit or an MSD 6 BOX.
Also, you could likely benefit from recurving your distributor timing which can easily be done by buying a set of mr gasket springs p/n 925D and removing only the stiff/heavy spring from the distributor and replacing it with a mr gasket one.
then put your mechanical advance in the slot that has numbers between around 10 and 12.

I used a Crane XRi in my '65 FB's stock distributer. It hasn't missed a beat.
I looks stock and has the added bonus of having a built in adjustable rev limiter.
AND it won't burn out if you leave the key on to listen to the radio like a Pertronix WILL.

I got a Petronix III all-in-one distributor and flamethrower coil, works a treat. Haven't had any issues in the last couple of years.
