Importing motocycle parts from US
« on: August 12, 2015, 05:19:19 pm »
Hi all. Looking at purchasing and imposing exhaust for my motorbike. Weighing up US price plus shipping versus looking purchase price. Any help would be appreciated in choosing importer for quotes.
1 package is 3.2Kgs measuring 100cmX45cmX25cm
1 package is 8kgs measuring 35cmX35cmX23cm

I'm still waiting on senders area code details, but my postcode is 3072.

Any idea who could do this without needing a mortage.

ShipPorter will likely be your best bet, but it still won't be cheap...

GST on purchase price plus shipping.

Surely GST would only be applicable if the value of goods excluding shipping is over AUD $1,000?
Cheers,
Brian

Dave,  wouldn't you just drop it into your suitcase on one of the many trips that you do over there?

Customs include the value of the shipping in their calculations - i.e. the total value it cost to land the item. So internal US shipping, international shipping and the cost of the goods.

Shipping is only included in the value of goods for duty/GST calculation on private imports where the value of the goods excluding shipping is over $1,000.  I found it curious you assumed GST would apply to the OP's import unless you already knew the value was over $1K.

Thanks for all the advice and quotes. Unfortunately I missed the auction due to being on night shift.
FYI it was a full SS exhaust new in box never used for just over A$1200. Same system is hard to find used at the price here in AUS. So yes, I was aware I'd most likely have to pay GST unless the seller would send in two separate transactions, but then shipping cost would be higher on two separate deliveries. Gotta love GST, can't wait till it hits 15% so our polies can tell us to tighten our belts more.

Hey Macka, last time I was overseas, they only thing I stuffed in my suitcase was a penguin!!
