Mags don't fit
« on: January 10, 2008, 08:03:29 pm »
Just bought some reproduction mags from the states to suit 65-66 Mustangs. The rear fit nicely but the front ones won't. I have an all original 65 fastback car with dics on the front and drums on the rear, can not understand why. Can anybody help?

Yes. Where you take the cap off to greese the bearings. The surrounding cast iron about 70mm in diameter.

Has the car had a drum to disc conversion? What studs were used?

There doesn't seem to be any stamp or brand name on the calipers. And the wheels that were on it were the original Magnum 500s they seem to fit beautifully but the new styled wheels don't.

Im not 100% sure, but if a bit of the "meat" was machined off your rotors around your outside wheel bearing it may be enough to permit clearance....
as XW rotors have less steel there, so either machine or buy XW rotors.

Can someone confirm this as Im not 100% sure about that.

J.

If they don't fit, and are XB with rear disc size, just buy XB with drum rear rotors.

Are the new wheels Mags (Must be alloys, as mags are about $2000 for a set) or Steel wheels?

BRETT, what size are your Torque Thrusts?
