Upgrade Ideas for 1989 5lt HO EFI
« on: May 14, 2015, 02:35:18 pm »
I'm picking up my new ride next week which is a 66 coupe, with a 1989 5lt HO EFI under the hood.

I'm looking for some tips to boost power.

I read that this is a nice little upgrade adding about 30 horse power with this simple bolt on

If it is running the early Australian plenum it will do nothing as the plenum opening is 50mm.
The MAF sensor will also be 50mm
Thus you will have 50mm openings each side of a 65mm throttle body.
If yours is 1989 it may be speed density and have no MAF sensor???
Upgrade to an Explorer intake plenum.
This is an Explorer plenum fitted to mine.
They are similar to the ones Ford used on the AU 5.0

This car was built in the US and exported to Australia a few years back, so not sure if that rules out running the early Australian plenum??????

I don't actually pic the car up until next Thurs, so I'll know more about it then.

Regarding the Explorer intake plenum, what model explorer should I be looking at?

  OK
That is the low rent intake and plenum.
Have a look on eBay and search for the following:
FORD 302 (5.0L) WINDSOR V8 - NEW COMPLETE EFI CONVERSION KITS (PARTS)
This is the one I used.
Has the throttle body, injectors manifolds all brand new and cheap as chips.
And you will sell of the leftover parts as well.

Awesome man, thanks for the advice! And will it add much power? Like, will it be noticeable?

This is the only one I could find:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/FORD-302-5-0L-WINDSOR-V8-NEW-COMPLETE-EFI-CONVERSION-KITS-PARTS-/300909564861?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item460f9b93bd

Is that the one?

some buy not a lot by itself . . if you have gears that are 325 or numerically ;lower, you need to install numerically higher gears to increase acceleration . . if your gears  are numerically higher than that, you can try higher ratio rocker arms . . if your compression is less than around 9.0, you can increase hp by increasing it.
