Pre purchase research
« on: May 09, 2015, 04:16:58 pm »
I arrive in the US Sunday & travelling for a month, always wanted to own & drive a Mustang & considering purchasing one to drive & bring back to Australia. Have I understood the online info correctly - if under 30 years old must do a conversion, if over not necessary? First apply for import licence, organise shipping/insurance, customs inspection etc then GST, compliance on arrival & if has US plates can temporarily drive home until conversion & registration?

Any tips appreciated. Looking at both 2007 GT Coupe & 1965 beauty.

If I was you I'd stick with a early one 2007 you will have to convert and with the new mustang comming next year you will loose your pants on that car. old ones will only keep going up.

I did the same as you bought a 67 mustang in long beach drove it around while I was in la had some fun in it. as long as the tags are current you will be fine.

Go see Laurie at cargo clear in Brisbane for a quote he is a realy good guy to deal with. on the U.S. end you drop it off to George at pts long beach when you are done with the car. just let Laurie know so he can get the shipping ready for you.

Make sure the car has a clear title if it DOSENT have one do not buy the car.

Take your title car and leave the keys with George at pts then when u get home apply for the import aproval and make sure you take some photos of the car and vin send it off to dotars pay your $50 fee wait for the aproval to come in the mail then send it of to Laurie and George.

Give it a month Laurie will give you your bill pay it and come pick the car up.

Also yes you do not have to convert a old car if it is 30 years or older.
