1966 Shelby style bonnet scoop
« on: January 03, 2015, 11:58:59 pm »
Just wondering if someone could point me in the right direction to buy a 66 Shelby style bonnet scoop? Dont want to buy a whole bonnet just the scoop itself.

If someone could come up with some sort of template for how it gets bolted on it would be very helpful also?

Something like this.
http://www.cjponyparts.com/hood-scoop-fiberglass-unpainted-bolt-on-gt350-1965-1966/p/HDSC1/
Might be someone selling something similar in Aus.
Also this for fitting:  http://forums.vintage-mustang.com/vintage-mustang-forum/686841-bolt-65-66-shelby-hood-scoop-thoughts.html
Good to see some pics if you go ahead.
Cheers.

Awesome thanks guys. Looks like there not a lot of diiference in price between Scott Drake, Summit and CJ pony parts. I've never bought from CJPP before, how is their postage cost and their delivery time?

This is a fairly recent thread on CJ Pony Parts and a range of opinions and advice.  :smile01:

Thanks all for the info.

I'm going over to Bundoora on Wednesday so I might give Mustang world a call tomorrow and see if they have any in stock at the moment.

I'm not getting any work done to the bonnet for at least a month or 2. I can afford to wait for one from the U.S if it saves me some cash.

East coast Mustang must be on holidays. Mustang world don't have them in stock and either do custom Mustangs.

I might just buy it from the States, don't need it for about a month anyway.

Got the Shelby style scoop this week from Harry's. Can't wait to have it installed but it won't happen for a month or two.

I went to Mustang Auto Parts in Bulimba last Monday & bought one for my car. Did any of you guys cut a hole in the bonnet to make it functional?

From what I have read I think you have to, otherwise you risk the scoop being ripped off.

there's no way it'll rip off especially if its bolted down and no hole cut,  heck ive even seen just double sided tape holding these things on

Must have been araldited on because there is no way double sided tape would hold a scoop on. Maybe they had a tail wind

Either way i'll be cutting a hole for it and bolting it on as I could do with the extra cooling.

Both my old 69 Mach 1 and my old 70 Mach 1 mustangs saw speeds over 200 kph and the hood scoop never fell off .  And yes those  speed were on race tracks .  Now be careful where you cut the hole ,because you don't want water going in , then onto the air cleaner then into the engine .
