Window glue
« on: September 11, 2014, 09:36:11 am »
Hi GUYS
I finally got around to pulling the door trim off my 69 to see why the glass is loose. It appears that the front glue on bracket has fallen off . They must have come loose before as you can see that there are traces of other glue been used. The rear bracket has been glued in the wrong place also as the guides are way off the vertical bar. Does anyone know what glue is suitable and were to purchase it ? I was told to stay away from silicone. Any advice on getting the back bracket off without breaking the glass.

Cheers Mark.

Get the glass and runners from a 70 which bolt in. This way the windows will actually seal and go where you want them. I'll be doing this to my 69 soon as everyone I have spoken to reckon it's a pig of a job glueing them and getting them right.

I used Sikaflex and if you read the linked m thread it will explain why 69 door glass comes loose and the inexpensive way to stop it from reoccurring.  Beats buying 70 door glass and regulators and if you do that you also need to swap the quarter glass to 70 as well

Cheers 69ISH

I had a look and understand what you are saying about the stop in the middle . Do you remove the stop rubber and screw a length of conduit the length of the window in its place? Allowing the brackets to rest on top .

Cheers Mark

I wound the Window down then measured the distance from the bottom of the door to the bottom of the front and rear brackets glued to the glass, then cut the conduit to that length then cut a slit up that length and slid it over the Window guide which is pictured in the link above.
Then remove the existing bottom stop,  this way there is no pressure on the glass at all only on the brackets.
If you do this it would be good if you took photos and added it to the other thread or even email them to me and I can add them to the thread if you are not sure how to add photos.
Cheers Rodney

Thanks for the info Rodney. I have to order the new guide runners next week so once they arrive I will take some photos and email them through . At least that will save me going down the 70 window conversion route.  Can you remember what sikafex product you used. There's shitloads to choose from. I just need to get the rear bracket of as it's been glued in the wrong spot.

Cheers mark.
