1967 mustang original resto progress pics
« on: September 07, 2014, 07:46:54 pm »
Hey guys thought I'd post up some of my past weeks progress of my 67 mustang.

My partner and I found her in la while on the 50th mustang anniversary tour in April.

The car has been in the family it's whole life and has all the original paper work still when it left the factory so we have decided to put it back to original as more like a concourse car.

Has some deluxe options like center console power breaks power steering pop of gas cap and levured bonnet.

The inner & outter sections had bog and rust. Had to remake that part of the drip rail and reweld it

Thanks I'm surprised myself I couldn't afford to pay someone to fix the rust so thought I'd have a go myself turns out I had a bit of a nack for it . to be honest there was a lot more hidden rust in this car then I thought when I bought it in the states. but more or less I was sold on the fact it was a one owner car and has all it's original paperwork with it & the price  :evilone:

Got all my bits back from the powercoater today came out mint and the cost to do it was cheaper then buying new parts.

There is a paint shop on Brisbane road that sells that rubber coating you spray on and you can paint over it. I put that on first and then put the 2pk red oxide over the top. trying my best to keep it as close to original as possible. I'm only at runway bay not far from you should pop round for a beer one day mate check it out.

Its funny how quick kids learn to drive a car, yet fail to understand a lawnmower.

Thanks guys!

Ha yes I did do it the hard way that's for sure using a skin but saved about $300 doing it this way.

For the lh side I plan to use a full quarter this time will be much quicker.

While the cowl  was out I cleaned up the fire wall and repainted it also sent the whole dash out to be blasted.

It's tempting I have gone this far I could almost convert it to rhd been the dash and cowl has been taken out but not sure if it would be worth more doing it.

Ryan,
It is only a run of the mill type coupe so unfortunately you will over capitalize on it even with you doing most of the work on it. If it was a fastback or a convertible you may just have been able to break even, there is just as much money and work involved in restoring either of the 3 body styles but the other 2 demand a higher resale price  So as every one keeps on telling people build it how you want it not how others want it and get out and enjoy it.
If you are trying to make money on it, good luck, have a look at the market and see what a coupe is really selling for not what the asking price is. Even concourse correct coupes do not draw big dollars and you're coupe which is just being restored with after market replacement panels and incorrect finishes is far from concourse but looks like it will be a very nice car none the less.
I guess what I am trying to say is build it for you and what you can afford resale value should not matter.

:agree: Ryan build it the way you want . It will never be a Concourse car no hope .  For a concourse car it has to be as it came out of the factory ,so forget 2 pack paint ,powder coating etc etc . If you plan on keeping it do it the way you will be happy ,if selling do it nice but not over the top and try and get some of your money back .

Arh my budget has been very good so far. I have watched every cent so far. What I liked about this car was it was an one owner option car with all it's paperwork so I thought that added some value to it.

I have a concorse finnishes Book so have been following that pretty closely to what stripes and what colour bolt goes where.

All the original bits have been sent out to get refinished re chromed etc. It will be close I'm trying to cover every corner of the car. This is how I want to do it I want an original car.

we have decided to put it back to original as more like a concourse car
I think what he means he's doing the works on it, everything; so it will be super tidy, will present well & probably judge very well.
Yes any deviation from how Ford built them originally loses points in true 'concours' competition classes which are very strict; they are top level & have their place but are too strict for many of us. I can't be bothered with it any more, too tough for my budget & too anal!

It's coming up well, lots of nasty surprises but Ryan will overcome those, just as we have all experienced such things ourselves no doubt.
I have a friend in NZ also with a one-owner red '67 coupe, all paperwork, full history, the works, & it's got less options than Ryans, still it's special & he just loves it because of all that even though FBs & CVs get more attention.
Go Ryan!

I agree. Not everyone has a FB or Vert, and even the humble basic car needs representation or no-one will remember that Mustangs were supposed to be a budget car initially.

Sent the dash out to be sand blasted today. May as we'll get the underside as nice as the top end. Front cowl will hopefully be in next week. not too long now untill I send it out to the panel beater.

No I agree concorse is too hard but I'm going to try and get it close as possible. found a good seller that sells you all the original coils, battrey leads pretty we'll everything for all the autolite gear you need. Pretty we'll want a car that looks original but clean enough to eat of it.
