Wanted 65- 66 coupe
« on: August 02, 2014, 09:58:56 am »
Hello members,i'm new to this club and would love a Mustang 65-66 coupe, only because a fastback is out of reach. I've looked at so many and the prices vary so much it's doing my head in. I would prefer RHD as i want to drive it once a week. Will $25000 get me into a neat ,sturdy Pony?
cheers

You may be able to get a RHD for 25k. Plenty of LHD for that sort of money. The forum sponsors on the right are a good place to start and also on the MOCA website under cars for sale. I drive my LHD once a week with no probs... :thumb:

:agree: At least give LHD a try first before you discount it. I love it on the left and would possibly only consider RHD if it was a daily driver.  :smile01:

The only time you need a right hand drive is when you need to go through a maccas drive through, otherwise keep the left hook, and enjoy the originality,

I use my LHD 65 as a daily driver with no issues.  I have used one of those extended grabber things to grab parking tickets etc on occasion  :smile01:

RHD/LHD...buy what you want, not what everyone else wants you to buy. Your budget should buy you a reasonable Mustang. If you are willing to compromise on year, it will buy you a bit better car in a less popular model. I did this and bought my '68 coupe, and now I wouldn't have any other. Just my 2c worth.
Cheers, Ron B

G'day Steve, feel free to message me, I've literally just gone through the same exercise you are embarking on, like most people here, I have a lot of info to pass on. I eneded up with a LHD 66 coupe, and had a budget of 25k as you have. Happy to have a phone chat, regards Frank.

Thanks people for the awesome advise, the website with several cars is great with many in my price range, the only thing i have in  preference to RHD is Red interior. Is this an unusual color for interior? Give me some feedback about this car in Parer Rd Airport West Vic. Black 66coupe,paint good/fair some large chips. Red interior with the drivers seat worn from use,but rest of interior very good.RHD, but the best side of this car is the running gear. Was purchased by a mechanic for his son and in a brief dicussion with him has made sure every thing under the bonnet and running gear is in excellent condition. It has a 302 with recently fitted new manifold, exhaust. I offered him 25,he's asking 30,maybe 29. I think its too much only because of the paintwork. It aint much detail for you out there to comment on,but any feedback appreciated. Am i allowed to be asking this stuff?
cheers

I find the narrower 66 extremely easy to judge distance, the sharp body lines makes it simple to work out where the corners are.
I found the previous 67 I had a bit harder.
Have to have another go driving a later 67 to 70 again to see if it's just LHD driving familiarity that's the difference than the actual LHD car?

Bigmac, I think a RHD will be around the 30 k mark. A LHD around 25k. That is for one that has previously been registered or has has work done to it. RHD always more expensive due to cost of conversion. Myself, I am not a fan of 302s were 289s once existed. Not a biggy for most... Just me I think...
