What's a shared 40ft can worth???
« on: July 07, 2014, 10:46:51 pm »
Hey guys
Just wondering on all your past experiences what a 40ft shared can will cost you.

I am using pts in long beach and cargo clear on the other end.

They are both 67 mustangs.

One car more or less is a project car with all the parts in side and the other we'll I have new parts in the other car. I've been told a ball park figure but still have no idea what this is realy going to cost me.

Should I be charged gst on a car I've owned for two years sitting at a mates place in the states I'm now shipping?

just Interested to hear everyone's past exp with shipping cars

In 2011 I paid $3K for my car from Longbeach to Melbourne. It shared a 40' container with 3 other cars and a motorbike.
I don't think it matters how long you've owned the car, you will probably still have to cop the GST.

The key is to having a broker you can trust that will give you accurate advice and will not rip you. At least if you have the whole container, you know the broker will not double-dip and charge each party the full amounts rather than splitting it.

Do not let the shipper/purchaser organise the broker unless you know them or know others who have used them and were happy with them.

Cheers,
Frank.

Arh what I did realy was told to drop it of at pts in long beach where cargo clear on the other end receives it on the other end. Alto I know other member have only used pts and used a different receiver on the other end in aus

It's cargo clear that I have to pay back when the car arrives but can't seem to get a final figure. I do believe they share there containers as I had to put all my extra goodies in the car. I was told it would be cheaper if I brought two cars and not just one.

My shippers policy is that you can put anything you like in the car at no extra cost, but you will have to pay Customs duty on it.
When shipping roll on roll off, the cars have to be completely empty.

I'm not worried more or less would like to know how much I need to put away. just never realy got a clear answer to what the total cost may be.

George from pts was a big help with my first 67 mustang. having no title I was a bit worried I may never see that car but he put me in touch with the right people to get it sorted.

I organized my own 20 ft container through California shipping. Cost me about $3,200 from memory. Had the car delivery to them and they took care of the rest. I also had 2 wooden crates they packed in as well. I organized a customs agent in Melbourne to handle delivery. They called me when my container arrived so I could be there when it was opened.
There was no way I would have had my car shipped in a 40ft container with 2 other cars as my car was/is mint
Cheers
