Power steering pump and hose query
« on: May 29, 2014, 04:46:03 pm »
Does anyone by any chance know the correct specs / description for the threaded & tapered seat outlet pipe for the high pressure hose that connects to the back of a '67-on power steering pump?
I think it must be 5/8th & it & the high pressure hose connect with tapered seats like brake pipe fittings.
My pump's worn out so I got a new Borgeson pump to replace it but it comes with a female connection not male, so now I have to either find a male/male adaptor or a replacement high pressure hose with a male end. Borgeson could only advise me of a US supplier.
I've been looking at Australian online machinery catalogs but there are lots of different variations, different angles to the seats etc. A bit confusing. Hoping someone can offer some advice. Failing that I'll have to take the pump & hose to a pipe specialist somewhere in Brisbane.
Thankyou.

Dunno - but I know the Australia Falcons (XY etc) have a similar pump to a Mustang but the threaded connector at the rear of the pump is reversed - like this:

Black ‘63.5 Galaxie 4SPD fastback (just you wait...)

Hey 67FBGT.  Spoken to you before about PS hoses.  Hope you don't mind I sent an e-mail to your bigpond address - I've been chasing a ps pump housing for ages (mine's dinted and leaks around the housing to body seal) and wondered if you'd thought about what you'll do with your old worn out pump. I'm hoping to replace the housing as the pump is fine.
Cheers

Have you thought about ENZED ? They'll come to your home and custom make hydraulic hoses to fit your needs.

Yep enzed is the way to go.  I used them to make a PS hose between a late model Ford pump and Triumph Stag rack.

Hi Jiffy, yes exactly the same design - the female end of the pressure hose screws onto that stub. But the Borgeson pump happens to have a female fitting at back, same thread as the hose end.
I'm hoping Big Al will have an adaptor, otherwise I'll take the forum advice & get in touch with Enzed.
Thanks guys!

That pump is off a 351C falcon - around the early 70's. Should be able to get a hose that'll fit.
