Wanted - Good AOD E Auto Transmission.
« on: March 26, 2014, 03:06:55 pm »
Brad took the 95 GT Mustang to our Auto Transmission guy this morning due to some problems. Received a phone call to say the Trans is shot and cannot be economically repaired.

So does anybody out there have one for sale?

Were these Transmissions used in Aussie Fords or do we need to bring one in from the USA if nobody has one?

Bugger! I have been Googling the AODE and as you say - looks like it will have to come from the USA.

Did read on the OzRodder forum that we could possibly fit a non electronic AOD out of a V8 EA or EB. I have zero experience with Transmissions, but wonder if that would be a cheap way to go. Should be able to pick up a complete car for around 1k or thereabouts from the wreck auctions..

Thanks for your reply.

Sounds silly to me, buy a rebuild kit from the states and find a transmission guy that knows what there doing, what does he mean by shot? , what's wrong with it, rebuild kits available on ebay usa check link below.

An AOD is a step backwards from an AODE.  I think you can get a 4r70w to work with an adaptor harness.

Hi 68pony, I think you may be correct. Jeremy has made enquiries with some local Mustang people and found out that Paul and Karen who have a 95 Mustang had a similar problem - something about a "Drum." They found a Auto Trans specialist out the other side of town who were able to fix the trans for about $900. We have the contact details and will ring them tomorrow.
Thanks for that link too.

Thanks Luke - that is good to know. We will see how it goes with the other trans specialist first.

If you cant buy the parts here , buy them from the usa , they are cheap, and any trans guy that knows what they are doing should be able to rebuild  it , I have a simular box (4R70W) in my 68

The issue is more likely he doesn't know where to get the parts from I suspect, as it is something that was not ever sold new here. I'm sure you could  get them from the US or get another box, wreckers would be full of them state side, they probably just about give them to you.

The trans guy is probably just going to Ford and is getting either "we don't have those" or getting astronomical pricing for the AUS sold Cobra parts.

We have used our current transmission specialist for years. He rebuilds all of our C4 `s and does an excellent job. Could be that he is not up to date with electronic gearboxes, or maybe he cannot be bothered ordering the parts - Don`t know.

The good news is that Jeremy has spoken with the other chap who said he should be able to fix it.

The car is booked in for early next week.

Thanks to all who have replied. Will post the result next week.
