It would be prudent to leave the word hire out of any discussions with anyone who may be willing to volunteer a car for this function. It is politically incorrect to hire the vehicle out unless it has specific hire car rego etc for any function be it a school formal or whatever. The Aussie way of doing a favour for a mate still seems to work though.

Hi Dale

Still holding onto Black & Gold by the skin of my teeth 4 weeks to go.The formal and wedding car scene around my area are getting pretty stiff with the RMS so one has to be careful in this day and age.

If you are caught using your L/H drive vehicle on Historic rego for hire here in SA. The maximum penalty is 4 years imprisonment and $15000.00 fine.........bit over the top do you think

I dont have any problems here with Frankenstang as i dont hire it to anybody for Weddings or Graduations.
I do it for free as a gift to them.
Strangers have to fill it up though :thumb:

In the lead up to some school formals here, Queensland Transport tracked down some car owners from facebook pages, got details from the rego's and sent them personally a letter spelling out the hire requirements and the penalties. Made the local news on the telly and papers.  Obviously nothing else to do. I checked with Qld transport (I know a guy) and it's OK if there's no hire fee.  Don't know how they intend to prove if any cash did change hands. Different issue if the car is on club rego though (restricted use). As dyates said, don't use the word hire.
