Just curious if you can buy the 1970 Mach 1 Front Fender Plates new? I understand that also they came out as two different types.

Thanks Glenn, any suggestions as to where I can get the bits? I was thinking of getting the "Mach 1" chromed on my rocker panels. If I can find someone to do it, that is.

Excuse my noobness, but I'm not sure I completely understand. My rocker panels are in really excellent condition, so are you saying I can get these to put over top of the lettering?

By the look of yours i would clean them up ,paint them and the rest of the side panels to match ,take the letters off and paint then sand the tops off .Take the top strip off and replace or get re done ,this depends on what you want from your car totally original or done your way .

That photo I used is not mine just got that off of the net, here is a picture of mine. My rocker panels are moulded with the lettering, so no way of removing them. The chrome mouldings I have an idea of what I'm going to do, so thanks for the ideas. I will repaint with the rocker panel dark argent colour. Looks like I will have to paint the lettering.

You can paint the whole thing then sand off the top of the letters and fins if you like ,thats what i did on my 70 and my last 70 mach 1.

Does that really make alot of difference? Does it stand out? My car is Raven Black. Obviously these cars have a lot of chrome accents and I really want these Rocker Panels to "Pop"

Yes it does ,you sand the top of all fins and letters ,they will come up great then you could clear over the top to keep them looking good .Google 70 mach 1s and you will see plenty done that way ,as i said i did mine like that and it looks good or just paint over everything so nothing stands out your choice .

Thanks for the advice Glenn, I'll have a think about what I'll do. I've got an idea, but no rush, it'll be a while before I put them back on the car anyway.

Just thought I'd let you all know (that are interested), but I found someone to do the chroming. The only catch is the whole plate is being chromed, then I just have to paint over it if I so choose. I'll see what it is like when I get them back before I make any final decision. Plus got plenty of time yet.

Mate they dont chrome them ,as the other strips that go on top and bottom of the rocker panels on the 70 mach 1s ,they acid dip them ,polish them then clear coat them in a special process and they come out like new .Not chrome .

Well, I asked them to chrome them up and that is what they said there gonna do. We'll see and I'll post pics in about 3-4 weeks of what they've done.

I think I have a spare set of these plates in shed at home (the type that your are able to remove the lettering from) if you need them give me a email jademach1moffat@hotmail.com (Price six pack of jim cans)

Not sure how well the paint is going to stick to chrome...
