My 68 GT Fastback Project
« on: November 29, 2013, 10:10:27 pm »
Hi, I know most people on this forum love checking other members build threads so I thought I would start my own.  I have had my 68 GT Fastback 302 4V since Christmas 2011.  I had it on the road for about 6 months before I started chasing some rust around the rear window.  Before I knew it I had torn the whole thing down and started on a ground up rebuild.  So far I have had it blasted back to bare metal, primed, and ready to go into panel and paint early next year.  I have rebuilt the power steering valve, had the diff reconditioned, brought a swag of parts and sheet metal, and had all the nuts, bolts, etc. electroplated.  I even got inspired by a recent post and cleaned up the front grille, which was a little premature given it is now hanging on my garage wall.  Anyway here are some photos of where I am up to.

This is what I started with...

This is the result of chasing a little rust under the rear window...

The new bonnet...

After being blasted and primed...

Some of the bits and pieces that have been rebuilt and/or blasted and painted...

Some before and afters of the grille after seeing a recent post on the forum..

And finally the bolts, nuts, washers, etc. after they cam back from the electroplaters.  Now to work our where they all go!

She is going in for panel and paint in early January so hopefully I will be able to provide another update then.

I think you're going to need plenty more of those Stellas while you sort all that hardware out.

Looking good - love the '68s. Keep the updates coming.  :thumb:

Very nice, i like the colour combo too. That will come up very well I'm sure on a 68 with all the chrome/ss trims etc.

Below is an update on where I am up to with the project.

The car is finally out of the shed for the panel and paint work.  Should take around 3 months.  Can't wait to get it back.

I had the Diff repainted and rebuilt with solid spacers, new bearings, and 3.25 ratio.

Here is a before shot of the Diff.

I have started putting the front brakes together.  If anyone is after a brake caliper retainer kit minus the stabilisers please PM me.

Here is a shot of the new rotors.  Just waiting on a couple of splash shield gaskets to finish putting them together.

I should mention that the paint and panel is being done by Classic Creations in Hume ACT.  They are doing a top notch job.
