Transport Sydney to Canberra

Hi

I would welcome recommendations regarding transport options to move a ‘65 Mustang from Sydney ports area to Canberra in early July.

TIA, Broad-Arrow

If it was my car, and I was reasonably close I would probably grab a trailer and go pick it up myself.  No one will look after your car like you will.

I shipped a car from Qld to Vic and used door to door (1800 366 723). Cost around $1200 from memory.  They were ok after they actually picked it up.

Thanks Darren.

In the past, when I had a suitable tow vehicle (i.e Toyota LandCruiser), I have undertaken my own transportation using a car trailer.  Unfortunately, I currently don't have a suitable tow vehicle so will need to engage someone to move the car.

Does anyone know of a Sydney or Canberra based transport company?

Another option is to drive it off the the wharf using temporary rego...

Try Neil @ Caringbah Towing - 0419 258 072
or Tim @ Alltrades Towing - 0424 588 852

I have personally used Caringbah to transport my 65 from Vic. to Sydney, door to door with no issue,
Cheers
Matt

Try SMB, they are usually quite reasonable, not sure if they go to Canberra, but I do know they will drop off in Goulburn, and you could always collect from there.

Just give them a call.

I've got a mate here in the ACT who does interstate runs.  I've used him a few times.  Happy to get his details if you like?

Hey broad arrow please post the results

I have my baby arriving around the same timeframe.
It is currently in Shermatts hands having some work done on it.

My thinking was to get the car "australian ised" by a company in Sydney and then pick it up and drive it back to Canberra.
By Ausralianised I mean getting the headlights done etc etc

PrixCar (previously Toll Auto) quote on their website $262 Sydney to Canberra (Depot to Depot). So you have to get it on a tilt tray to their depot in Sydney. By memory when I did it for mine last year it was about $150.

Are you considering driving it from Sydney to Canberra using a temporary permit?  I was looking at this option, but I understand I would need to obtain a NSW Unregistered Vehicle Permit (UVP) which would require a safety check by an authorised inspector.  I believe it would be easier to simply truck the car to Canberra.

No, it had Michigan collector plates/rego, but they have been removed.

My only experience with this was on a caravan I sold. The buyer wanted a permit to drive it back to Canberra from me in NSW. I had to get it inspected which was the same process as getting a pink slip done. As most of us know just how difficult most inspectors can be on first time inspections on classic imports as they have no idea, I personally would not be choosing this option. I think it would turn out into more of a drama than worthwhile.
