Fuel Pump Eccentric
« on: June 06, 2013, 04:05:39 pm »
Hi There,

I am installing a serpentine kit onto a 68 289 Motor in a 302 block.  Their set up requires a change of timing cover and conversion to electric fuel pump as the new cover is from a later model.  One of the bolt castings on the inside of the new timing cover fouls on the mechanical fuel pump eccentric, so leaving it in is not an option.  Is there anything in particular I need to look out for when removing the eccentric, and what kind of washer could I use to put in its place?  I would have thought that it being offset that it may affect the balance of the cam shaft.  If anyone could shed some light on this it would be most appreciated.

Cheers

When you say essentric....are you refering the lobe on the cam.?

Just remove the pump lobe & refit retaining bolt if necessary. It makes no difference to any balancing issues. It's sole purpose is to drive the fuel pump arm.  Consider it to be an add on part.

Just take it off ,no balance problems .Put a washer on and you must use loctite on the bolt . Buy a good brand electronic fuel pump . .
