Looking for a good 428 engine or block
« on: May 07, 2013, 02:11:37 pm »
Hi guys, as per my post in the " Time for an Update " Thread in Members Cars - We have discovered that the engine in a customers car is no good as the block is cracked.

Therefore we are looking for either a good 428 cu.inch engine block or even a complete 428 engine.

If you can assist please phone Jeremy on 0412075064 or leave me a private message.

PM/ring Jiffy or blackthunder, Rocket. They are the first two that pop to mind for CJ gear.

Yes... A bit too far gone for Gaffer Tape or Bluetack -

Somebody had tried to weld some cracks in the block -

I would just get a motor From Barry at Survival Motorsports in the USA FE Guru
http://www.survivalmotorsports.com/
or a short block and reuse your heads etc. Be easier and cheaper than trying to get one here. May even be able to get the right date if your lucky

:agree:Yep agree with Survival motorsports for a engine or block also  Keithcraft engines for a block, There machine work is excellent ,don`t get a built engine , long story, and  POPS engines are not high on my list, the first 2 live Fe`s so CJ blocks and date codes are no problem ,,, but try at home first ,jiffy and thunder.

Cooor!!!

Does it have the 'C' scratch in the back and the triple mains webbing too? What crank is in that?

jiffy

Honestly, I havent even looked at it since these photos were taken 14 months ago. Its in the shop somewhere.

2 of the 3 side bolt holes are evident in the pics and are factory but not the centre hole?

Other side there are NO holes

I think Sherm said last year that it could be a 428 SCJ crank...but dont hold me to that.....he walked past it quickly and mumbled that....could quite possibly be a 390...nobody knows

I literally just unloaded it, put it on rollers, took a few pics and pushed it into a corner (I have a few corners like that)

I was just going to donate it to J-Block

Well, it's be interesting to find out! The rods look like normal 390 rods rather than 428CJ rods (smaller nut/bolt combo) and they're definately not SCJ LeMans rods, but who knows what the crank is! I've seen a few 427-66 rear block castings before, but they could be on anything - I've heard of 390's having them and seen 428CJ blocks having them, but the two holes down the side are just where they bolted the block to a jig for assembly, they're nothing to do with cross-bolts.

A few years ago I had one of the super rare 428 'S' blocks with the cross-bolt nubs in it, dated Jan 1967, sold it here in Aus but I cannot remember the guy's details, it would be great to know what happened to that.

How did you go with this Rocket? I thought of someone else down your side of Australia that is also into FE's that might be able to help.

It also wouldn't happen to be this engine would it or is this just a coincidence that there is two 428's needing some mending at the moment?

Hi Ash, As far as i know the owner is still unsure of the best way to proceed. Last i heard he was considering the options available and thinking about travelling interstate to have a look at a fully rebuilt ( resleeved ) engine.

I am pretty sure the other Thread is a different car.

Sorry to be vague, i am stuck in the office when at work for the moment so am out of the loop with car happenings.

Hi Rocket,

That's all good. It's good that you are busy!

More info is now on the other thread and I can see it is indeed another 428 that has bit the dust.

I will look up a contact I have and PM you his details. It may be another option, he may have something. I know the last time I spoke to him he had a range of 428 gear and was a self confessed FE hoarder.

Cheers

Hi Shane,

Jiffy has both a rebuilt engine and a block, But we are just giving the available info to our customer so he can make the decision.
I personally would go the rebuilt one from jiffy and that's been my recommendation to him, We have done all we can to the car just need a motor then it's :burnout:
