Paxton install
« on: March 09, 2013, 05:45:18 pm »
Just a question guys and girls,

Has anyone on the form bolted on a Paxton supercharger here in Australia to an early model Mustang?
If so what was the cost involved and did you get it here from someone like CAPA here in Aust .
Or did you bring it in from the US direct?

Any info would be great.

I have seen one fitted onto a 65/66 fastback a while back but don't know who owns it. I know there is at least one out there.

Yeah Johno,
I'm seriously looking into it . A full kit bolt on all parts from CAPA 5K plus fitting ( they don't do the fitting)
The same kit from the US is 3 K plus freight and GST around late 3s .
I have one contact in Me lb that can fit  but the more info I can get the better.

Got one on mine and love it.  Had a few teething problems with it, it is not self lubricating and takes oil from the sump.  Hd to drop the compression down a bit and had to fit a blow off valve as it blew a seal on the charger but picked up a heap of horse power and a fair bit of the wow factor.  I bought it in myself through JEGS and saved a heap of cash, if you know someone bringing a car in put it in their trunk save about $500-700.  Bought mine about 5-6 years ago now so can't remember the exact price.

I bought one in for my AC Cobra in the 90s.

Cost me only $1000 back then. Bought it in with my luggage on a business trip to the US.

Was very easy to install as it was the type with its own oil reservoir.

On a stock motor it added about 100hp.

I would recommend it - really woke up the car.

Only downside on a stock motor is that it would hit the redline (which was only about 5200-5500 rpms) almost instantly. So I recommend a rev limiter.

Cheers,
Frank.

Pete.

They are a great thing .

You would either need to get your carby somehow converted to take positive vacuum ie. boost , or get a new supercharger carby. I would probably upgrade fuel pump while you were at it too.

Just under $4k shipped from Summit just for the blower.

Anyone got a price from CAPA ?

cheers,
Frank.

80hp at wheels should equate to over 100hp at fly approx... 5k plus install and mods.  Brackets and pulleys to suit ... What's recommended comp ... Under 10.5 - 1...... Is it more for fuel to have low comp ....

im in the process of this on a HO motor in my 67. In my scenario i had to drop the engine a little (mounts were too high in there anyway) as the bonnet was touching the top of the supercharger with the bonnet level and wanted somemore clearance. This caused an issue down below as now the alternator is down the bottom and was fouling on the radius rod area.. rather than cut or concave that area i modified the alternator bracket to swing the alternator up a bit thus leaving the belt the correct length still and the tensioner within range. I have TCP shock tower braces so this aided in fitment as they arent soo bulky as te stock ones. Ill be putting the full TCP shock tower brace kit on.. the monte carlo bar will need slight modification to go over the A/c and the s/c itself but only slightly which TCP instructions already state a few options to clear accessories in some applications.

My engine is originally a factory EFI but arrived with my car as a carb (holley 670 carb and edelbrock intake and heddman headers). Ive since changed this to a HOlley Systemax efi intake with TFS1 cam and the paxton with stock pulley which i think is only 8psi boost. one day ill change the heads but until then im just changing to stiffer springs as recommended by both TFS and Paxton.

after reading the responses above, im looking forward to driving it when its finished to see how different it is to N/A.. I wont be driving aggressively anyway until i know she will hold up or when i do somemore appropriate upgrades..

always been a N/A guy and now ive converted to the dark side :D

heres some pics in the bay.

good luck with what you decide  :burnout:

looks good .. hope she goes good too ! :D .. i went to alot of trouble with contrasting colours ( silver black and polished bits..) considering my engine arrived dipped in black por15 .. she has come a long way asthetically (supercharger aside)

Would make a great sleeper. Love the build quality.
Unsure what engine I will end up with but after seeing your build some forced induction could be the key!!

Very nice. So the intake going forward - where do you get that from? I am sure gbx would like to know.

From memory I got it through rocket but I can go back through paperwork and check if you need. I've got the filter sitting inside the front guard and fabricated a steel guard around one side of it to stop road debris flicking into it. It was originally in the engine bay. I couldn't tell you if it makes a performance difference as to where it's located, I just thought it would be better with cooler air.

I think i know the part but its too small for my SC what size is the inlet. Mines 4in and the issue i have is space clearance near the shock tower . Ive had to move the engine back about 1/2-1inch so with 4inches of pipe/bend it just about fouls on the shocktower. I have an idea on how to get around this and still maintain the volume of air its sucking in just havent had a chance to try it. Once past that section, im already setup and prepared to come out of the battery tray area and out to the front grill for my cold air.
