What would you build?
« on: January 15, 2013, 04:36:08 pm »
This will always cause a stir and I suppose it is personal opinion, BUT - what is the best shape of mustang?

I can't make my mind up what to do next!!! [although next maybe another year or so away]...

So far had a 65 coupe, 68 coupe and latest being 69 Mach 1 and has always been my dream car... Dad has a 68 fastback and we always argue who has the better shape, however, to be honest I'm thinking of maybe doing a 67/68 fastback next time round.

Restomod 67/68 or 69 fastback with lots of carbon goodies, half cage, custom dash, bucket seats, shaved, Foose style paint job, big brakes and wheels, stroked small block and maybe a little supercharger... NOT sure I can budget for coil over suspension etc!!!

The question is - if you had a pretty good budget to blow (say $80k) what would you build?  :evilone:

For 80k i would build  the perfect woman . o well back to a car a 67/68 or 69 fastback . Most likely a 69 as 67/68s are always done like shelby clones etc .

I honestly like the 65/66 fastback over the 67/68 shape. And if I had a good budget, I'd love to do something like Ron here has. This thing is pure horn and had me glued to the screen for night after night reading the whole thread. I'm not sure I do the same with the GM heart but can understand why he went that way.

This is what I need to see - I haven't really had a soft spot for that shape but seeing what you can do... it's turning me haha!!! My uncle doesn't really want to let his go (65 fastback project) although he never works on it, however, I'm sure he'd sell it to me for cheap because then he could still use it...

I reckon I'd go for a black 69 Mach1, not too bad in the body but not perfect so that I wouldn't be paranoid about someone leaning on it.
I would upgrade the mechanicals with rack and pinion steering and four wheel discs.
A small block with a supercharger and a 5 or 6 speed manual, then drive the Hell out of it.

I would love a '68 Fastback to go with my '68 Coupe. I always wanted to do a big block 390 GT in the Bullit theme.  :thumb:

If you haven't had a read around that forum, have a good sticky beak. There is some amazing stuff being built on there and those guys have so much freedom to do so compared to us here in Aus.

But you have to read all of that Mustang thread, the amount of work done is simply incredible! He has some other build threads too, I know he is also building an AMX at the moment as well.

You are deciding pretty much the same thing I went through. I chose a 69 and could not be happier with it. So I would go a 69. Its definitely the more aggressive looking one and looks much more suited to pro-touring than the previous ones.

It needs to be a 69 Ash!!!

Yeah, some may say they are the same, but as a 69 owner, I know exactly where you are coming from  :thumb:

This could be your starting point

Sorry, no deal. The nose cone, grille, headlight arrangement doesn't grab me. It has to be a 69.

I know you are leaning towards a Mussie, but in doing this, do you want to destroy the essence of the '69?

Personally, if I was looking at bling, big wheels, power motor, and you want to stuff it up the Chev guys, what about a mid to late '50s Fairlane?

Something like this

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1957-Ford-Fairlane-500-Custom-Built-Ready-CarShow-/321053666660?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item4ac04a2d64

In fact this one is more what I would be doing

Id  buy an  XA GT coupe :burnout:

im with you jr65

 :agree:
Look at your car. Now back to mine. Now back to yours. Now back to mine. Sadly, yours isn't mine. But if you stopped buying dodgy cars and bought an 67, yours could be like mine. Look down. Back up. Where are you? ...You're on MOCA, reading the signature your signature could be like! Anything is possible when your car looks like my car...................
