Exhaust system - Dyno tuning?
« on: November 26, 2012, 01:09:28 pm »
Well, as mentioned before in my car’s thread the exhaust noise is quite loud and I’ve received a complaint from a neighbour. I have been getting home at 1 am on Sunday nights/Monday mornings so I can’t blame the guy.

I’m going to try get to finish band rehearsals earlier for the meanwhile and as much as I don’t want to, as a last resort I may look into getting the exhaust toned down in the near future so I’m just checking out my options.

Currently I have cast exhaust manifolds going into a dual system with 45 series flowmasters. I’m thinking of upgrading to extractors, an x-pipe and quieter mufflers that won’t rob it of too much power. Engine is a 302 with 351 Cleveland 2V heads.

On the Torana forum some have had good words about Sureflo, they do a dyno test to work out what’s suitable.

http://www.surefloexhaust.com.au

I’m not sure how they are with old Mustangs, has anyone here dealt with them or have other recommendations?

My guess is Windsor.

1969 302 Ford engine with serial 9K18xxxx

I've been told elsewhere it would've came out of a Maverick built in Kansas.

A Windsor with Clevo heads would make it a Boss/Clevor motor , no ?

Cheers,
Frank.

It's likely the 302 was built to resemble a Boss as I don't think the Maverick came out with them?

Hmmm ... I'm no expert on Bosses, and there is more to a Boss than the Clevo heads, but if you have a Windsor with Clevo heads, then you would need a unique Boss-style intake , so essentially you have a Boss config motor.

I dont think the Boss motor came in a Maverick, but again , I am no expert.

Nice bit of kit then.

Cheers,
Frank.

Someone has being playing ,a 302 w no problems ,even a boss style manifold no probs ,australian 302 , 2 v heads really . If from the states they did not have 302c  heads are more likely 351c . 302 aussie heads are closed chamber .If you want extractors you will have to get them custom made .Notice the balancer hmmm .On the inside corner of heads facing up is there a 2 or a 4 or 4 dot .

Me? This motor was last in an XW. They are 2V heads with genuine 69 Boss intake.

Looks like a Windsor intake with the water pipe arrangement there. Bit hard to tell but if you are sure it has Clevo heads, could very well be a Clevor.

I'm just going off the ad which mentioned it was professionally built, had 351 Cleveland 2V heads and Boss B&A intake.

Just buy the neighbour a set of ear plugs and tell him to sleep less during the day.  That way he will have a nice deep sleep at night when you return ... and will not hear you :).  Easy, no more complaints.

Probably not, will have to check for raised letters but the ad said they're 2V heads.

If you want extractors you will have to get them custom made

That probably explains why the previous owner didn't install extractors.
