CHILD RESTRAINT IN A 66 COUPE
« on: August 05, 2012, 09:00:38 pm »
So my new delema, how do I go about fitting a child / baby seat in the 66, can this be done, has anyone done it before, and if so, can you recommend someone in Sydney.

Also, are all coupes registered as 4 seaters, can an extra seat of lap belts be added to convert them to a 5 seater?

Geoff Eaton is a member of the Chev and Corvette Clubs and attends a few runs with the various clubs round town so he is reasonably well known - I have known him 30 plus years if that means anything.

Anyhoo, Geoff's business is All Vehicle Restraints.  A few on the forum have used him.  His contact number - 0417 473 492.  He is in the Illawong area.  He is the sort of person who sees the problems/issues, works out the best solution and follows through with a good result.

Give him a try but be sure to tell him the recommendation comes from the MOCA Forum.

I fitted a pair of AU Falcon restraints in the rear parcel shelf of my 66 coupe in the same way they are fitted to the Falcon.

My 66 coupe is registered as a 5 seater and only has the original 4 lap seat belts.

Yes, NSW. I had it blue slipped last year for the first time. I was surprised when I looked on the rego papers to see it as a 5 seater.

Mine was blue slipped and registered for the first time this year, and for some reason did it as a 4 seater, I wonder if it can be changed with the RTA as I will fit a middle seat belt, I just dont want to have issues having 5 people in it, when the rego papers say 4 seater, even know it will have 5 seats.

So my issues are fitting the baby seat, which I will try Geoff Eaton and get him to install the 5th seat belt, but just not so sure how to go about changing it to a 5 seater with the RTA, maybe once Geoff fits the middle seat belt, I can take some paperwork to RTA and have it changed.

Ring the RTA tech info line. Neil there has helped me out with information on several occasions, he should be able to tell you what you need to do.
He has said to me that if anyone was to questions his statements, refer them to him. He might be able to help you if you get told several different things from several different people. Which is more often the case.

My car definitely only has 4 lap belts, no belt in the middle rear. For this, I'd also like to put a 5th belt in so we could take the coupe out when we have more then 2 kids to move around.

You can certainly reg them as 5 seater, in QLD anyway, when you do the LO2 compliance you just fit a centre lap belt, and you must fit a child bolt in anycase to get LO2, just weld some RHS front to back in the centre speaker hole in the parcel shelf, mount the bolt in that. In QLD the seating numbers are on the LO2 mod plate, as LO2 is basically about fitting modern belts and head lights.

Mines registered as a 5 seater, i just added another pair of belts using the same inner bolts for the belts on either side before registering.

If it's rego'd as a 5 seater in NSW, Ash, the blue slip guy screwed up on the paperwork. Simple as that. It should only show a seat for the number of factory, or approved restraints in the car.

Thanks Sean, good to know :thumb:

I guess I got lucky. I would still like to install the 5th belt.
