Import Approval issues?
« on: July 28, 2012, 09:04:08 am »
Hi again guys, just wanted to ask about the dreaded import approval which takes forever.

1. Has anyone had one denied?

2. Whats the longest you have waited for one?

3. Anyone rolled the dice and shipped while its still being approved?

thanks in advance

Some of your issues are covered in my experience.

My approval took 2 months to come through, I wouldn't recommend shipping prior to receiving it just incase the car arrives first.

1. Not me,but if you're concerned do some research there is a famous case where one was knocked back, fought it and won. Highly modified Corvette.
2. Christmas time and the lead up to, a good 8 weeks.
3. Yes, but fully aware of the risk and only when the approval process was well underway so the car wouldn't beat the approval here AND when it's a stock standard car with little or no potential for a knock back.

If you have any reservations about a car, call DOTARS and run it by them, they're pretty helpful.

I was told they were down to a consistent 15 days now due to a new system in place.
Could this be incorrect?

In public service talk, isn't 15 days three weeks?  3 x 5 day week?

Oops, no, that does not allow for RDO; time off in lieu (loo?); accrued sick leave; long service leave least we forget holiday leave and a little longer to be sure to be sure.

So, the 15 days sounds like it might be correct ... 2 months in lay mans terms ... and we all know who is getting laid - or, is that the same as being screwed?

True, Mussy. Every step of the way that has something to do with a government agency they manage to screw you more then once.

I put both my import applications in before I actually brought the cars. Gave me a week or more jump start.

Good luck. Don't forget it's 15 working days, so three weeks.

It staggers me why they take so long and that the service is so bad, you either get an answering machine or an automated email. grrrr

Good news Kurz, is the car still leaving today? If you know the name of the ship this site may help the wait go quicker: :toetapping:

This one is a live tracker but only works when the ship is close to land:

Was hoping there was something like this, thanks. It has left and is heading to Bremerhaven in Germany by the 18th, then tranships onward to Melbourne.
