All I can is the early 67 ones had one pin and earthed through the distribution block when required, the newer ones added the.second pin/earth wire. Can you connect the live wire only to the switch,  then earth the other pin on the switch and check results?

Hi Skev,
For the light to work it appears the 2 pins need to be shorted out.
I have moved this article to tech torque
