Whilst the engine bay was drying I moved onto the engine re-build.

Final pix of the Engine build.

Finally finished and now it will be put away in a safe spot waiting for the engine bay to be finished.

Really impressive, RP. Great work  :thumb:

What is the black you are laying down? Is it a body deadener or a tough skin of some sort? Looks a little bit like U-pol Raptor liner.

Hi Ash Its a new rubberised body deadener that really flows well off the gun and seals great. No more floor rust on this car. If only Detroit used this stuff back in the 60's none of our cars would need the floors replaced. Super tuff and very moisture resistant.

It looks tough as hell and like it will treat you well for a long long time.

How are you transitioning into the engine bay? I was thinking how to do this myself last week while working on mine. Did you stop the deadener at the overlap on the floor pan to firewall?

Hi Ash I stopped the body deadener just after the cross member. I masked it off on the seam and it came up quite well. That is also where I will start to paint the engine bay colour from.

Thanks, RP. I'm still undecided on what to do in regards to engine bay paint. Just throwing ideas around in my head at the moment. It helps a lot when you see others going through the same thing.

Keep it up. It's great to see the updates  :thumb:

Some pix of the diff restoration.

Diff was stripped, sanded and wire wheeled all the way back to bare metal. It was then coated in 2k high fill undercoat and blocked back twice. It was then sprayed with 3 coats of 2k high gloss black. The shine off the gun is excellent and I sprayed it on a hot day. Who needs an oven when its 40 degrees in the garage. Also plan to spray the engine bay on the next really hot day. Heat is crucial when using PPG Deltron.

Thanks sea67n. I started working on cars at 16 in my dads garage. No play station back then. Here are some more pix of the diff.

Alsp sprayed the crossmember in 2k high gloss at the same time as doing the diff.

Engine bay has been sprayed RED. So it's gonna be a factory red on red car. Thats how it came out of the factory and thats what it says on the door ID tag. I decided to spray the engine bay red and not the saturn black. I just feel it looks a bit more classy that way. I know it's not original but it should still look ok. Especially with the chrome 347 sitting in the engine bay.

Yesterday I worked on putting the diff back together and mounting the rear disk brake kit.

All went well until I got to the part for the attachment of the parking brake cables. Basically in big bold writing it said "ATTACHMENT OF THE PARKING BRAKE CABLES IS THE CUSTOMERS RESPONSIBILITY" . This has really put a spanner in the works. The cables they gave me only go half way. Now I need to manufacture new brackets and then extend the lines to reach the front :omg: I can't take the brackets and re weld them as the whole underneath has been sprayed and finished. There must be another way or another kit out there that will enable me to avoid this. Has anyone else had this problem whilst fitting a new disk kit.

What disc brakes are you running, I ran ED falcon on mine and got the old ED brake cables and cut the cable, added a piece of cable to get it to length with cable grips made sure it all works then took it down to a marine shop and had them make a new complete cable with the correct fittings on it.
Cheers Rodney

Thanks for the advice 60ish. I will figure something out but it appears there are a few options out there.

Left the handbrake issue for another day and moved onto the front disk install today.
