Which alternator?
« on: October 20, 2011, 03:13:26 pm »
Hi there, had a question regarding alternators. I want to replace mine with a good one.
I've been shopping around and am a bit unsure of what I actually need. I looked at caenterprises in Vic and the damage is around $500 . Summit racing seem to have plenty of much cheaper options .
I am wanting to run it on a 302 Windsor  with a One wire set up.  Was looking at a 100 amp alternator.
At present I am rewiring the car completely and really want to have the right alternator for the job.  I am using a Ron Francis  18 circuit kit and plan on having power windows and a decent stereo as my only extra power drawing devices. I'm using an msd starter.
Any advice greatly appreciated

Regards

Craig

Why do you need 100 amps ? We have a car even with a power ball scratcher and it only has a 75 amp alternator.

Mustangs up to '70 only needed 55 amp alternators.

Will the wiring handle it if the battery goes flat and the alternator belts out full amps to recharge it quickly ?.

Have you got a local auto elec to ask what he would advise for the job ?.
