Like other people on this site I am looking to purchase a Mustang from the US. I want to buy one that require work (prefer to restore myself).

Iam after a 66-68 Mustang. I understand there are different codes (I believe A & K are the best).

I would like to know what is the best car to buy. Would a GT be better.

Cheers,

Simon

Simon, the A, C & K codes refer to the engine( power) and are just a few of many different engine types spread over the Mustang range. The 65/66 series of Mustang seem to have been the most popular however the 67/68 are becoming quite popular recently. The 67/68 have more room under the bonnet for larger engines to be more easily fitted. Obviously a GT is more desireable and collectable but you also need to decide if you want a Coupe (Hardtop),Covertible or Fastback as well. Have a good look around and talk to some owners to help with your decision. Also its gunna cost you around 3 grand to get a car here from LA. Luckily parts and info are readily available for you to do what ever you want. Good luck to you in your quest.

Hi all,  do any of you have any experience with shipping cars from NY to Sydney? Am looking at possibly purchasing a car in NY and was wondering what the best way to get it back is... i shipped from LA last year which was easy enough but not sure about NY. Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers

Tom

It may cost you an extra $200 to ship from N.Y than from L.A. but it may also take an extra 20 days to get here.  If you can wait, it will be worth it as it would cost you a lot to have it shipped from N.Y to L.A.   I just purchased a 66 GT fastback from Alabama and it cost $1450 to transport to L.A.

Tom,

If it's a nice car, I think I would pay the extra and have it freighted to Long Beach. I have heard some horror stories from the East coast. Both my cars went from Texas and Tennessee  to LA ...

I now have the same dilemna.
I am thinking i should bring in 2 cars in a container.
We fly to Sacremento next August to watch the daughter compete at the World Outrigger canoe titles.
the only thing i know so far is a trip to Yellowstone (to see Yogi Bear), The Grand Canyon and of course Vegas.
Mother has given consent to buy a late model coupe (03 to 07) to drive and bring home. Obviously another to sell here will cover a lot of my costs.
It seems like there are a lot of bargains to be had in late models, but what i see in earlier years suggests that there are a lot of dogs out there.
At least i have a lot of time for research, although i think a buyers agent is the way to go.
Does anyone know what the go would be in regard to buying and storing over there prior to our trip.
We are planning on a month at least
