« on: August 27, 2011, 12:43:16 pm »
Hi all
I tried to get this on the forum but Im having trouble
getting it to work
I have a 1972 Mustang convertible
six cylinder and T bar auto
it has power drum brakes (nine inch finned type)
at home I also have an 83 Fairlane Im wrecking out
can someone tell me if the discs from the Fairlane will fit
the front of the 72 also will they fit the rear
or will I have to change the whole rear end?
hopefully someone out there knows these things
thankyou John

Hey John,
i not a tech head on this type of stuff but i have a 73 fb and have changed the front discs to xb with new bearings - i did run into trouble fitting them -the centrs are a different sixe and i had to have them slightly machined to fit. -its the depth of the centre and this stopped the split pin being inserted -

best of luck

Ok, I have been doing a lot of research and buying bits to convert my 67 (On a boat ATM) to discs, this info is for front disc fitment only.

What I found out, anyone here with more experience please correct.

Falcon XW to XB Falcon uses the same small locator hub size and bearings as a Mustang, if you use DBA rotors (p/n DBA106) they will fit on all 65 to 73 stub axles.

My 67 will have XB stub axles, XF alloy brakes and DBA106 rotors. Just have to work out a way to adapt the flexable brake hose to the metal lines.
(Any idea if I can use a adaptor)

You will find XC to XF stub axles are a lot heaver in construction, use different bearings and have a large centre rim locator on the rotor so you cannot fit early small hub rims as the rim won't fit over the hub

I think you can fit the early small hub rotors to late XC to XF stubs but you will need to change the bearings

I think you are best in swapping the whole stub axle and rotors into your Mustang, and if you need small hub rotors buy the DBA106 and change the bearings.
(Most alloy wheels I have noticed have a large centre hole so you might be ok to just use the large XE rotors)

For the rear you can use the whole disc axle assembly but if I remember right, you will need to move the spring perch in a bit. It will bolt up but the springs will not be totally straight (5 to 10 degree incline to them)
