« on: August 20, 2011, 09:12:51 pm »
Hi guys new here
Im looking into building a GT500E
Not sure which road to take tho . RRS online do a RHD mustang shell for 40k
Would this be a better way to go then trying to buy an old shell n fix it up myself?
Thanks
I have told the missus .I am going to buy a mustang so deal with it

Welcome aboard FPVF6!

Speaking as someone that has been through the whole process my advise would be to source one yourself, but make sure you don't have a budget in mind, as whatever you are thinking, it'll be blown out.
Is right hand drive really that important to you?.........i had a chance to convert it to right hand when we had to replace the firewall, but i didn't feel it was that important let alone the added cost, so I kept it left hook.
Again, this is my opinion on purchasing one from either the states or here, don't know anything about the RRS stuff.
With the dollar at the moment being good, buy urself a ticket and go and look for one yourself in the states.
Not sure which state you're in, but if you'r anywhere near Sydney, make sure you look up Steve at St.Marys Prestige once you buy one, as he'll be the man to fix it up for properly.
Good luck, and don't hesitate to ask any questions on here, great bunch!:thumb:

40K for a bare shell!!!!!That you then have to buy every last little thing to go on the car,add mabey another 20k at least i would say and thats with out running gear and paint. Ya could go to the states find and buy one plus all the parts (like body kit ,wheels and the shelby stuff ). And have it imported top oz for less than that money. Id be buying a complete car just my 2 bobs worth.

P.S :welcome: aboard

the bare shell would be the dynacorn one. don't go that way, they are classed as new cars and need to comply with current ADR's. you need a 67 project car to get away with it.

building an eleanor using the dynacorn shell will end up with a $150k project that cannot be registered without airbags, latest emission controls, and all the safety aspects you would expect to see in the latest model cars.

get a good project, where everything works, and start from there.

similar to the hertz build. a good solid car was used for that. would have saved a buck or 2 on the clone!

Yer they are  the danacorn . RRS online is 40k to ship here. It is RHD . I was looking at it because you can dump the new coyote engine in them straight up,but i heard they might be a bit heavier ? . N you can go with new tech in it. But i didnt know about the airbag side tho
Im in NSW .
I have built a big powered F6 that i want the satisfaction of building a car myself as my build was done by a work shop
I have told the missus .I am going to buy a mustang so deal with it

i'm not trying to ruin your dream, its still definately possible. with 40k, you should be able to find a very solid 67 fastback here in australia, with the steering converted already if you look hard enough, but make sure its engineered, otherwise you might have trouble. my car is a project, but i am going back to original specs so less custom.

you could always pick up a cheap project car too if thats your style, and do rust repair work too, but the body work on an eleanor will be full on without any additional repair work to do.

Good luck with your search for a doner car, and i look forward to the degree of GT500E you go. Full movie reproductions can be very expensive, but that includes all the interior work too. exterior work, including the fuel filler in the rear quarter is the extent i would be happy with, which involves removing all the reinforcement sheet metal behind the quarter and modding it up to fit the filler neck etc...

talk to stanglover and soc_123 for advice.

will be an awesome feeling once she's on the road!

Cheers!

If it's just a clone you are going for , I'd definitely be looking for a '67 Fastback and use it as the project. You can still find really decent ones in Aus. for well under $30k. The dynacorn way is probably going to require you buy an old crapper to get the chassis number from it & transfer to the dynacorn - probably illegal ??? to get it rego'd in NSW.
Cheers ,
Mark

Stay away from the dynacorn body, too much hassle. Either way you will need deep pockets E cars have a tendency to eat money. Have a good read on here, Stanglovers build is well documented (Stanglover throw up a link, I am on my phone) also there is a bit on my car (search Hellanor) i haven't updated it for a while but you may find it useful. Feel free to ask questions, we have found most of the pitfalls with these builds & if we can help you avoid some of them then happy days.

there has recently been a bit of talk on here about importing v's buying here..The way I see it, If you are looking for a project, you are probably better off getting something here:
- less risk of something going wrong/not what you expected (cost of heading stateside to check out cars)
- the cost of impoting a lone project is relatively high
- something already restored may wellbe cheaper to buy from the US, but a project will end up costing more than its worth

If you're planning a trip to the US then Import is a more viable option i suppose..

my car came from a local dealer who had imported it
