'65 6 cylinder power steering conversion
« on: July 09, 2011, 12:25:06 pm »
Hi guys, just got my daily off the boat, she's a neat '65 with a 6 cylinder. The idea behind the 6 was having a nice daily that wouldn't cost the earth to run but I've decided if she's to stick around, I'm going to have to put power steering on her.

I've found a few aftermarket conversion kits for the 6 cylinders on overseas sites, just wondering if anyone has had any experience with the 6 cylinders in this area, know of any issues or can recommend a good steering specialist or mechanic in Perth for such a job?

Thanks gang!

If you want to wait a month, I could sell you the entire power steer system from my V8 coupe.  From pump, ram, drag link, to tie rods.  I'm going the other way, converting to manual steer with Flaming River box.  You may need to update to V8 spindles, but that would be a good thing as you can then upgrade to discs up the front.

Power steer is in good working condition, needs new hoses and a seal kit in pump (which I have).

Could be a goer Jay, any idea what parts would be different between a six and the v8? I'd guess most of it would be useable.
Maybe pm me back? Thanks ;)

PM sent

Throw in v8 spindles and its all drop in from there.  Pitman and Idler arm probably need upgrading too, can someone confirm?
