Hi Guys box is done had first drive on sunday, its bloody great!
Clutch feels good not to heavy, shifts between the gears with ease and sounds like it should, always hated the sound of an auto change.
Only problem l'm not sure what would be a good final diff ratio. Currently has a highway diff 2.79:1  way too tall.
In 4th at 100kls about 2400 which pulls ok but in 5th it drops to about 1650rpm.
What would be a good diff ratio to get somewhere between 2200/2300 rpm in 5th.
Tyres are 205/65/R15s.

All looks magnificent to me!
Just make sure the slave cylinder lines up exactly and you dont overthrow the pressure plate.

Hi, I see that you are converting your car to a 5 speed. I have a 68 fastback with a top loader, which is noisey, I am thinking of putting a 5 speed, could you tell me what parts you have used for your conversion? and do you still have the auto & transmission lines? If so are they for sale??  many thanks:cool:

I think because it's such a simple part to fabricate no one will tell the difference, best to spend money in other area's. Important to get the gearbox as far up into the tunnel as possible.
I will also be fitting a T5 and i bought a bell housing from the states from a mustang 5.0, seems to fit together very well.

If you use the Search tab at the top of window type           (T5 gearbox ), it will bring up some of the past links including 1 of mine showing parts.
Ignore the modified C4 crossmember Hev's been there not recommended option.
l have gone  EL  T5 and toploader Bell For a stock bolt straight up XR-XW falcon Master / Slave Hyd clutch setup.
164T f/wheel. 11" stock clutch kit. Will see how it feels when l get it done.
T5 input shaft needs to be measured and turned down in a lathe about 1mm to fit Bellhousing.
cheers.

Hi l'm in the throws of fitting T5 gearbox into 67 stang, extractors removed, flywheel clutch kit and gearbox all slipped straight in.
l'm up to the gearbox crossmember and have made up a sample less the mounting plate. Shame its not strong enough cause it fits ok. will make from 5mm wall 35mm tube with 3mm think end mounts.
My question is will replacing the original C4 crossmember with the new one for the T5 require engineering approval.
Or is it better to buy a pre-made one from Ebay US.

my mate might have a spare ...we ordered 2 for 66's and they sent a 67/68 one...didn't fit on ours so assume they will fit the later .....will find out

if you are putting your other engine in then i think a T56/T56 Magnum would be better suited for you with all that power....we have a crossmember for 67/68 T5 conversion.....he wants $180 if you pick up or $200 posted.....

Thanks for the offer but have just about finished new one, we have access to workshop equipment at work.

l have the mounting plate affectively on the other side of the bracket making use of the offset side mounts, so there is no need to extend the plate.

The answer to your question ! 3.55 gears are the best suited gives good balance between getting away quick and a nice cruising speed on the hwy.

i have an 86 world T5 and with a 3.8 diff i sit on 1900rpm at 60 mph....with the old 289 engine which made over 300hp i wish i had 4.11 as off the line the gears would have helped that little windsor a bit more and still sit on about 2200-2300rpm at 60mph....google rpm calculator and it will give you all the different speed/rpm ranges for what ever diff ratio you want to use....that way you have a fair idea what revs you will be at in all gears....

The specs on mine are 3.25 with 225-50 16 tyres, 110kph is 2200 rpm in 5th was doing 13.8 @100mph over the quarter with the 289 and that was with 214hp at the wheels.
Nothing like a V8 with a manual box. hope this helps.

what is the final ratio in 5th of your gearbox.....mine is 0.68...in 4th i sit on 2800rpm at 60mph..not sure if all T5 final gears are all the same.....if you have an engine that has heaps of torque like a stroker then you dont need low gears to get you going off the line as the engine will get you there pretty dam quickly where as a mild 289 which doesnt have a tonne of torque you want the gears to help that litle engine get into its rev range....all depends on what you want the car to do and how you drive......
