Hi All - while I'm waiting for my car to arrive I thought I'd post a few pictures and a summary of what's happened to date.
Like some of you, I decided when I was about 5 that I wanted a Mustang and not just a Hot Wheels one :smile02:. Two years ago I figured the time was right so I started doing my homework. I found this forum, lurked for a while and listened to all the advice that was being offered. Ideally I would have liked to travel to the US to source my own car but work commitments made that impossible so I contacted Shermatt in Oct last year and started talking to Matt about what I wanted.
Matt and Sheri have been fantastic to deal with and I've known since that first conversation that I was in good hands. I was after a 68 or 69 convertible as a weekend car, it didn't have to be a show car but I was definitely not after a project car either. Sheri sent through some cars and they all looked good, apart from the purple one
(Sorry Sheri, but it's just not my colour :smile02:) but nothing had jumped out and said "buy me". Then Sheri sent through details on a 69 H Code that looked very nice in the photos and I thought that we'd found the car. Matt and Sheri went to inspect it and unfortunately it didn't come anywhere close in real life to what was advertised. Matt advised patience and said there were better options. I was disappointed but reminded myself that this was why I was dealling with Shermatt to start with - Matt and Sheri were just as disappointed as I was.
Fortunately, not a lot of patience was required. A week later and Sheri sent me details about a 68 S code. I didn't realise at the time how unusual an S code convertible was (noob) just that it looked like a great car but was a little out of the price range I was looking for. I did some more research and realised that this was a little special and agreed that an inspection was called for. I spoke to Matt after the inspection wanting to know when he would be uploading the video so I could check it out only to find out that he'd bought the car and that if I didn't want it he was more than happy enough to keep it :smile02: (plus he'd negotiated the price down so it was back in my range - gotta love that
)
It's a numbers matching S Code manual that was originally Sea Foam Green but now Resale Red. It's had a fair bit of work on the front end but judging by some of the restoration photos it was a fairly solid car to begin wiith. Matt's happy with the quality of the repair work (no easy feat given what he's been doing with the Green Machine). He organised some further repairs (front shocks, new roof and power top) and the import approval was processed in near record time so it was onto the truck heading for LA.
It's been a while getting here from LA - feels like it's sailed at least 5 of the seven seas but it's in Singapore at the moment and due here in two weeks so I'll probably have it in three - and that's when the grinning will start
