Ok so I'm brand new to the forums...Hello everybody! :hi:

I'm living in LA for a few months and instead of buying a car and selling before i head back i have decided to buy a (reasonably priced) Mustang and ship it back to Adelaide when i leave.

My father's friend is buying a boat within the coming months and we will share the shipping crate back to oz.

Anyways i have looked at a few cars over here and this one seems to be in pretty tidy condition.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1966-ORIG-CALIF-OWNERS-RESTORED-3-SPD-289-V8-RECORDS-/180663411516?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item2a1060e33c

I am not the most mechanically minded individual...this will be my first classic, and i will have a third party inspect the car both under the hood and for any rust i might not be able to see.

Just wondering what you guys think about her and if it seems like a reasonable price?

Thanks!!

James

Hi james124,

:welcome:...

Price wise, the car doesn't look too bad, going from the photo's.

I just noticed that the front drivers side radiator support panel looks like someone has tried to repair it (to of pulled it out) to straighten it, and where the inner guard apron and radiator support panel are welded together, again, it looks to have been repaired?

What you really need to look at is the underneath of the front of the car, especially the front rails as this will indicate if the cat has had a major front end collision...

Also, what you do have to take into account, of course, is the age of the vehicle, so there's more than likely to be some form of accident damage (or rust) along the way.

Hope this has shed some light...

Cheers,

Trans-Am:cool:

Yeah , it's definitely had a punch in the schnoz! Needs to be checked thoroughly underneath.

Looks nice and tidy. I was in Santa Monica last Friday, if I'd known about this place I could have checked them out while the family was shopping, damn! :banghead:

Ok, so i went back today and took some more photos. Here they are. I tried to take some more detailed shots underneath and in and around the engine bay.

It look does look nice but when you give it a real once over you start to pick up on little things..... i also think it's a little overpriced for what it is.  Am i going to be able to find something decent for around this money?

Doesn't look too bad for a 45-46 year old car..........you wont likely buy anything here like that for that kind of money. Good luck hope it turns out ok for you.

Only fair condish with reasonable 15 foot paint over ?????????
Personally I'd leave it alone or perhaps offer a few G's under what they are asking.
Most cars will have had a couple of love taps at some point of their lives, but some of those pics show a real hide and seek situation.
Not saying don't buy it but it's not worth their "buy it now" price....far from it!
