Steves 1967 Fastback Resto-Restomod
« on: May 02, 2011, 07:35:16 pm »
Gday guys recently i picked up this stang that a few of you may have seen for sale on ebay.
been looking for one for a while now and im very happy with what i got here.
Its a 67 t code fastback that has been converted to a stroked 351.
At first glance nobody could tell me much about the motor, the body was in good nick, within reason.
After finding the original paperwork i contacted the previous owner in south carolina, and he gave me a run down on the motor which i was very pleased to hear!
It turns out it might look a tad rough but this old pony has a little heart of gold.
Stroked 351 with 11.5:1 compression, big cam, milodon race sump, msd ignition and dizzy, and a alot of other bits and peices which ill mension in time.
Engine was rebuilt and worked in 2001 and barely done 3000 miles since.
seems to run ok but ill keep you all posted on how it comes along!

I have now stripped most of it down and been repairing any rust and dents as i go, the doors were a mighty pain and have had a few good hits in the past, but good old hammer and dolleys sorted most of it out! i want as LITTLE bog as possible in this build.

Hi 77gze,

:welcome:aboard...

Your new ride looks to be a nice combination...Black, stroker 351 Windsor , 4 speed and 9" (I presume???).

Your thread post's up on the website throughout the restoration should make for interesting reading.

Best of luck!

Cheers,

Trans-Am:cool:

Well hello there! now i had to move house so progress was halted but now its full speed ahead! And im not happy with what i have found on the back quarters but i willl show you all soon.
In the meantime, a photo i took of my other toy that i built ground up about 5 years ago,
its a 1977 celica fastback with a 1996 1jzgte twin turbo 2.5L six in it, 9" diff, 360kw at the tyres and it only wieghts 984kg.

It is my inspiration but this is a good photo!

i little bit of an update, as ive got it all rotating on the spit now ive been reparing all the rust and completely seam welding the entire underside, along with 3 new floor pans and a ggood old fashioned spruce up, ill be putting in chassis joiners as well. So far ive repaired alot of the rust and the gearbox tunnel that was a mess.
But then i ran out of mig gas, which ill refill tomorrow :)

Ur doing a great job
I just find its amazing how a reasonable looking car
can look after its been stripped.
Cant wait to see the quarter panels.
Hope the rest of the build goes well.
Watching with interest.

it is never ceases to amaze me how these cars always like great in photo's on Ebay & the like. Then folks buy their dream car only to find things like this...........Congrats to you on your determination to repair & restore your dream machine. I hope it all turns out well, keep up the good work & keep us all posted regularly.:thumb:

If you have ever been to the States you would know their idea of "restored" or "driver" is nothing like ours!
The hard work will be worth it in the long haul..

Wow there is some serious rust there. Fortunately we can get any repo replacement panels for our cars. Suggest you replace those frame rails though:thumb:

OK everybody! updates well overdue. and work was slowed down due to having to move house AGAIN! anyway, this is where im at now, drivers side is nearly finished just gotta do the final section of the torque box this weekend. then the passenger side will be easy, panel out a few dents in the floorpan then ill get stuck into the strut towers..
Cheers!
