Return trip - coupla problems..... Bugger!
« on: April 17, 2011, 07:33:37 pm »

Some happy Mustangers leaving tomorrow morning for the three day drive to the Gold Coast.

Sure to be a pleasant trip for them.:burnout:

I know a certain person who came very close to not leaving on time tomorrow. After a weekend away in Melbourne to watch the footy, he arrived home this arvo to pack the car.

Problem - could not find the keys!! After a frantic 4 hour search this arvo they were finally located. Kids - Don`t you just love em!:rol::rol::rol::smile01::smile01::smile01:

Have fun people.

They are coming up via the outback. Broken Hill, Gilgandra, Tenterfield.

Jeremy rang this arvo and said they are having a pleasant cruise and thoroughly enjoying it so far. But he has a sore butt. Guess he better get used to it. Only about 1800 klm to go.

Most unusual problem caused a breakdown to Jeremy`s car this morning. Couple of hundred klm out of Cobar is not where you want this to happen!

The water pump pulley broke. Fan was still bolted to the water pump but the part of the pulley that holds the fan belt had disintegrated, so the car overheated.

All cars in the convoy - about 14 - pulled over to assist, then cars went in different directions looking for a replacement pulley.

Turned out some local aboriginals had a couple of ford v8 engines at home and provided a temporary replacement. The replacement is off a cleveland engine and for some reason the fan cannot be fitted.

He is now mobile again and they will try to find a replacement en route.

Two things are impressive from all this. Firstly the fact that all cars stopped to assist, then waited till the car was mobile again - salt of the earth people.
Secondly, a lot of us would bung crap at the indigineous folk, but they went out of their way to help. Many, many thanks to them.

Hey Dale, You are no orphan mate! Wife and i were booked to go but her health has not yet improved enough to travel. Bugger. Maybe next year.

Heard from Jeremy earlier. They arrived at their nightly stop without any further dramas.
Car is running great even without the fan. They are stopping at the towns along the way in search of a replacement. No luck so far, but travelling through some bigger towns tomorrow. He is not too worried as they feel the car will make it without any worries, and a friend has packed one in his suitcase just in case they cannot find one. Thanks Steve.

Thanks Dale, October sounds like a plan for us. Ripper! Should be able to bring the Grande, Jeremy`s car and the 68 coupe or the Mach1

Just heard from Jeremy, the SA contingent are only about 1.5 hours from Surfers Paradise.

A minor hiccup this morning when  one of the cars had a stone fly up into the radiator, which put a hole in one of the tubes. They have pulled the Radiator out and waiting for a Radiator Repairer to cut out the tube. Will soon be on their way again.

Jeremy says they are a fantastic group of people in the convoy, and the trip has been very enjoyable.

The SA group left the Gold Coast this morning.

Heading down the Pacific Highway along the coast. They made it to tonights stopover through heavy rain.

One car has had the wiper motor poop itself. RainX on the windscreen made the drive tolerable.

Another car is losing transmission fluid, probably a blown seal.

Trifling problems really. the group are having a ball on this trip.

Jeremy replaced the water pump pulley on his 65 coupe in Surfers Paradise and says the car is running sweet.

They are currently in one of the big RSL clubs. Lucky buggers!

Big drive tomorrow down to Yass. Think a few will have a hangover. ( Just Jealous ).:drink::drink::drink:

Might pay you to stop at an autoparts store and pick up some of that RainX just in case. Makes the water bead and blow off the screen.

Hope you are enjoying the trip.

Yeah well if you pull ya digit out then you could have your car ready for the October trip to Melbourne:burnout::smile01:

Good time to make plans for next Easter in Newcastle. Want to drive the Grande over for that one. Would be great to finally get to attend one of these events.

Think there are 14 cars in the convoy at the moment. With yourself, Dale and yours truly all about to have cars ready we could make it at least 17 cars next year.

Also love those big clubs in NSW. Roll on Easter 2012!
