We have 17x8 rims for Mustangs from 64-73, why do you want skinner rims on the front? Why not 8's all round?

I have 18x8 on the back of mine with 245x45 with a 4.5 backspace, and lowered 2 inches, had to roll the guards to stop the rubbing.

Running 15x10s with 275s lowered with no rubbing.
I think my backspacing is somewhere between 4.5 to 5 - never actually measured it.
Cheers,
Frank.

Just to be a party pooper, legally you should have the same width rim front and rear.

I don't think that is correct Phil, a lot of cars come with different size wheels front & rear, VE HSV's, just about any euro sports car, to name a couple.

+1 on BLKPNYs reply - my M3 has 'staggered' rims - wider on the rear.
Just about all Porsches have them , other BMWs, HSVs etc.
Cheers,
Frank.

Yes sorry, its fine if the car came with staggered sizes from factory, but the stangs I believe didn't. I went down this road a few weeks ago after being told by the licensing guys that the rim sizes needed to be as factory and asked if the rims were staggered on mustangs and they weren't, as mine has 7's F and 8's rear.
Basically do what you can get away with and keep a spare set of rims for going over the pits when you get caught!
Its easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission:smile01:

I've passed many RWC's with 6's or 7's on the front, and 8' on the back. in fact my rims on my 66 when I bought it, for it's first RW and Vic Roads inspection, were 6's & 185's on the front, and 8's & 235's on the rear.
