New Kid on the Block :)
« on: March 09, 2011, 08:49:22 pm »
Hi everyone

Well as the title says i'm new. I've never owned a Mustang or a classic car but I have always wanted one (especially since recently when I saw a group of mustang drivers pass me on the road so jealous). I have recently sold my every day car so I can afford to purchase a Mustang. I am looking at buying a 1966 model (very excited). I just wanted to ask what I need to get done before I can get it registered. I have found a few I like that are located here in australia (NSW) so I would have to get them shipped to Vic. But after that I am unsure what I need to do to get it on the road. Any help would be great and any mechanics etc that you can point me in the direction of to get the compliance done would be great. I am located near Greensborough :)
Again thank you for your help and I cant wait to get my Mustang, I have the bug....

Sorry I forgot to introduce myself my name is Ben

If it's never been registered, in NSW for rego you'd need:

Green slip
Pink slip
Blue slip
Import approval
Weighbridge slip
Bill of sale

Plus, if it's a left hand drive;

Headlights changed over to dip RHD
Amber indicators (debatable)
Passenger door mirror
Seat belts (depends on blue slip person as to how mush they want lap vs lap sash and also front vs front/rear etc)

May be similar in VIC?

Good luck

Thanks :)

The ones I have been looking at are LHD and they have not been registered in NSW before. So when looking for a mustang I should be asking for all of these (they should have all of these yes):

Green slip
Pink slip
Blue slip
Import approval
Weighbridge slip
Bill of sale

and then get the compliance done for the other things.

Again thankyou for your help. Ic ant wait to get one and then come on on some cruises and meet everyone

cheers

If it's never been registerest at all in this country then you must get the import approval and a bill of sale from the seller. After that, the seller may try to improve the sale by offering a blue slip but these documents only last a short time, so you may only get the items mentioned above.

You could say that the seller will need to fully register the car in order for you to buy it, depends on it's road worthiness I guess.

P.S. I'm no expert, just have my owner experiences.

Why not see what Mustangs of Melbourne, Just Mustangs, East Coast Mustangs or Griffs in Ballarat can offer at the moment?
They can all take care of everything re getting/keeping a Mustang on the road in Vic.

In 09 I wasn't sure how good it was so only entered display judged & even then if I had known to display it better I may have won, I came home from Ballarat knowing that the Nationals were going to be here so I spent heaps on new chrome & bits & tidied up almost everything possible......... still managing to drive it almost every weekend I kept it clean & tidy. I had it on ramps for three weeks cleaning it underneath, you know what it takes. With the high standards forced upon us by guys with unlimited budjets building Trailer Queen Show Cars, the level to be succesfull in Original Class & still be able to enjoy your car & attend all you club functions is extremely difficult........10 years ago cars like ours in that condition would probably have got Gold. My new car is a GT350H clone so it wont be eligible for Original, but wouldn't it be funny if it won Dislpay judged, what would happen then. I am going to start a thread highlighting the build.. Cheers Mate

Emberglow,

I am really looking forward to see how you go with the new build.

Please note if you do take out Display Class you may be able to enter Modified class?

If I am not mistaken there are a certain amount of changes required to qualify as modoified.....i want to recreate a Shelby clone as close as humanly possibly.........I even have a genuine original intake manifold

Bluediscus84, if you are buying the car in NSW to bring to Victoria to register, dont worry about pink, blue or green slips as they only apply for registeration in NSW, you will need the import approval and bill of sale. Then you just get a normal roadworthy certificate done on the car by your local mechanic (or some one recomended in your area), as long as it passes the roadworthy,(if not get the offending problems fixed) and then front up to Vic roads and get it registered. You could ask the seller to get it registered as part of the sale but the rego will only be current for NSW and you will still have to get a roadworthy certificate to change it to Vic rego hope this helps cheers Adam
