Colour Choice Of My Mustang?
« on: January 20, 2011, 04:13:48 pm »
Hi All,

I need some advice please about the choice of colour for my Mustang. It's being restored and is almost at the stage of being re-sprayed. The restorer is adamant that it should be sprayed yellow which was its original colour. The problem is I hate yellow and it looked great sprayed white when I bought it. The restorer says it's better to keep to the original colour. I know that at the end of the day my personal choice doesn't matter because I will be selling it as soon as it's finished, but just need some feedback on what you guys think about this. The car is a 1971/72 Mach1 fastback and the ones I've seen look outstanding in white.  All replies will be greatfully appreciated.

I love white, but if you are selling it why not put up a poll for us all to vote on. I'm betting red would be overwhelming favourite???

If you are selling this then I would agree with your restorer, and the fact that it is a Mach1 would seal the deal for me to keep it as per original. This is of course if the car has been restored to original everywhere else.

Yes, it's being kept as original as possible, even the motor which runs extremely well considering (it was driven right up until the day it was shipped out). All panels etc replacement parts are new from USA, the body itself was in great cond except the floors which have been replaced and a couple of under the bonnet panels, work on the doors and boot lid. I was lucky enough to get some matching seats in Aus in reeeely good condition (still can't believe it), the originals were worn down to the springs :(

Thanks Johnno, I keep thinking white white white til I'm going nuts but know I must go with the experts. Your idea of a poll is excellent (how do I arrange that?), and I agree, I'll bet red would come out out on top too...candy apple red....yummy!

Yellow for sure (yes, I'm very biased)

But if not yellow, I suggest Vermillion Fire, as we could do with a few more of that colour in Australia.... :leave:

Hmmmm...vermillion fire....even sounds good
No No (slaps wrist) I won't do it

I have to admit that yellow car looks extremely good (brainwashing self) and white is hard to keep clean.

Actually I've never been a big fan of yellow either, but something about the  yellow and black combo made me want it bad. It actually came out of the factory painted white with blue stripes.

I've always been a bit of a fan for darker colours with a tinge of metallic on these cars too.

White is not as hard as darker colours to keep clean......... eg Black, Dk Blues, Dk Reds etc.
I also like silver and lighter blues and greens..

Me too, had a car once that was dark blue metallic, loved it!

Youve got me 99% convinced on the yellow

Finacial reasons, finding it almost impossible to keep up with the ever rising cost of living, it's going to break my heart, I was hoping on keeping it indefinately. I intend to register it though and take a few (very careful) runs before I part with the old girl, I hate even thinking about it

If you were painting it completely yellow I'd say no way - these cars are a little too fat for a single bright colour. But with the black Mach 1 striping to visually slim it down it will look hot, and very nineteen-seventies (once again, in my biased opinion).

Nice pictures of the above yellow car (with ginger interior) here at Mustang Monthly: http://www.mustangmonthly.com/projectbuild/mump_0209_1972_custom_yellow_mach_1_hardtop/index.html

The pic of the white mustang in the Florida driveway was taken the day before it was shipped to Aus
