Cheers mate....
For those wanting to know what happened...
There is a shaft which drives the oil pump on the transmission, which broke. What happens then, was the back of the convertor is slowed down by the transmission, while the engine, making about 1000 - 1200hp, basicly twitsed the front off the convertor (like opening a new bottle of Coke). The pieces of the convertor (doing 8000rpm) went straight thru the SFI rated bellhousing (which is meant to be a rated shield).
The huge puff of smoke is actually a misty cloud of extremely hot transmission fluid. Once there was no driveline connected, the engine free-revved, and hung on the limiter. The resulting backfiring out the pipe then set fire to the highly volatile cloud, resulting in the fireball.
The transmission extension housing broke, so there was nothing but the output shaft sitting over the crossmember and the shifter cable holding the box in, luckily the car didn't run it over, and just dragged it down the track, wearing away the alloy sump.
Shrapnel put dents in the front guard (from the inside!) and put a couple of holes in the floor, in the passenger footwell. They were still so hot, they then set fire to the carpet.
The fireball burnt away the parachute, and melted the rear bumper and taillights. It also destroyed all the braided hoses under the car, fuel, trans cooler etc etc.
We are told there was a 6" wide, 4" deep hole in the track, from the explosion.
Driver was OK at the time, he was a little surprised at the reaction from the safety crew, as he didn't see too much from his position, but after seeing the car, and the vid's, he was shaken up for a few days!!
