New member - seat belts in a convertible

Hi all,

I am new to this site, so thanks for having me.

I have a 1970 Mercury Cougar XR7 convertible - not quite a Mustang, but very similar.  I don't know of any Cougar chatrooms in Australia, so was hoping you might have me here!

For safety reasons, I would like to put lap and sash seat belts in the front seats of my car.

Has anyone done this who can offer some tips?

Also, can you recommend anyone reliable and cost effective in Melbourne who could do it for me?

Many thanks,
Sam

Give seatbelt maker Hemco in Ballarat a call on 5334 1213. I think they've closed their branch in Brunswick, but Head Ofice should be able to advise where to get their products fitted.

You could also investigate a seat belt place called Veh-Quip in Ferntree Gully on 9758 7276.

I've only purchased belts at each, then fitted them myself.

Sam, I take it you haven't registered it yet as cars after Jan 69 have to have lap/sash anyway in the front.

Heres the Vicroads ref http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/NR/rdonlyres/B3F9BDB7-551F-4C21-BA5A-119CA9719174/0/VSI21.pdf

if it is registered, someone has done a shonky.

The car is registered and it only needed lap belts.  The issue is not so much the supply of the belts as the customised installation.  I don't want to install a belt that causes more injuries than it prevents.
