Clutch Cable
« on: October 26, 2010, 10:33:00 pm »
My local Ford Dealer claimed that he was not able to provide any parts for this Model 2001 Mustang and I had to go to a third party. Is this the case?
I am after the ford part number for the clutch cable for this model and a dealer that may provide it.
Anny help appreciated.

Call a Ford dealer in the US.

Cheers,
Frank.

Oz Ford dealers won't carry any Mustang parts as Ford Australia didn't import the later models.

Try specialist Mustang dealer "Mustang Australia" at Artarmon on 02 9438 5300

Just remembered a company called Flexible Drive Agencies who repair/custom make all sorts of auto cables. They have a branch in Sydney at Chester Hill.

There's a chance they could repair your existing clutch cable.

Or take a punt on a LHD cable. If necessary it could be shortened to suit, but lengthening it might be a problem.

Try Mustang Motorsport in Melb - they do the conversions and would know if the LHD cable would fit RHD.

Cheers,
Frank.

Thanks Guys for all the feedback. I have found out that the cable is different even the way it is attached to the Clutch pedal. What I don’t understand is that all the literature claims that Ford Australia imported these vehicles and had Tickford do the conversion, now it seems Ford Australia wants nothing to did with them.

They were sold through a limited number of "FTe" dealers.
I'd try and see if you could find one of those and see what they have listed.

I've bought a new cable from Mustang Motorsport in Ferntree Gully, Melbourne. about $200. I ended up not needing it and returned it about 2-3 years ago, so they have them/can get them. I had mine repaired for $18 (the end broke off!) and it's as good as new. They're REALLY heavy, there's no getting away from that...

Also, things like disc brakes - get the from the US. For instance - Ford pads for the front only, from your lcoal ford dealer - $885 fitted. Set of 4 vented discs and pads - $300 in the US. You know it makes sense...

I bought a spare cable for my 2002 Cobra in Feb last year and was told it was the last one available from Ford. The number on the docket is ZETVE7K553A.

The guy in Liverpool near the RTA is very good, I had one made by him, perfect and pretty reasonable too.
Gave him the old one and two days later I had a new one.
