Removing an etag mount
« on: October 23, 2010, 05:40:05 pm »
I've recently bought a car with an etag mount stuck to the top centre of the windscreen. It is a piece of plastic about 2cm square stuck on with a double sided tape. It is stuck so hard in position that a razor scraper does not seem to be able to get it off. Does anyone know the best way to get this thing off?

Not sure why the # appears for the letter a in the word scraper above but it won't edit out for some reason

CRC, WD40 or similar, should help!
Spray on, wait, then work it into the edges of the adhesive, then scrape it away.:hope:

Can you dab around it with thinners or metho then scr#pe away?

# was the fun bit, but it seems that the auto speller has been fixed now.

Heat gun as suggested, but not to heat the tape...

What you need to do, is soften the plastic, grab it with a pair of bull nose pliers (or multi grips) and squeeze the edges in until you can get a decent grip on it.

Use a twist motion to get it off, not a side to side one, else you will most likely break the screen.  Then clean up the glue with a razor blade.

In the workshop, we grind em off with a roloc disc.

Thanks for the excellent advice. I just happened to have a heat gun so I tried that and it came off in about 30 seconds.
