The drivers window on my 66 coupe can be opened by pushing down the glass (with the handle turning by itself on the inside as the window goes down.)
had a quick look and cant seem to see anything out of place...anyone have any ideas?

You will need to replace the window winder mechanism (scissors). It's not a hard job and easily explained in the workshop manual.  Replacements are around $60.
