'66 Power steering pump options
« on: September 02, 2010, 04:20:35 pm »
My pump has finally died , although it has been rebuilt it was on its last legs but has now gone to pump heaven.
I have a 289 without A/C , what are my options? Direct replacement , if so can i get one locally? Otherwise is there a Falcon alternative that bolts on that anyone can advise me of?
Thanks in advance...
Jim

mine was an aircon type
with freight it came in around $220-250
sorry thats my best recall + l posted my old one back to them
for them to reco
l was pretty happy with the deal as l was back on the road within 2 days and l was quoted plenty more to have mine reco'd plus it was a big wait
griffs were really good

When I bought my '66 from MoM it had come in with a dodgy steer pump and Steve had replaced it with one from an XF Falcon, apparently bolted straight in. Have had no dramas with it in the 4 years since.

You can also consider going manual. My 66 had power steer which was shot so I removed the pump, lines and changed the drag link with a straight manual one. Much better. More positive steering. Only miss it  in tight parking turns but I can live with that. The power steering box is a better ratio also. Slightly less turns lock to lock like the Shelby ones.
He, with the most toys wins.

After spending megabucks having my steering valve rebuilt , replacing my ram and all lines im just too far down the line to go manual - i found a great site in the US that rebuilt my control valve , excellent service and decent value excluding the posting costs...
