Sparkplugs
« on: August 07, 2010, 06:30:22 pm »
Hi Everyone
I am after a set of plugs for my 302 4V.  The ones in it at present are from the US (Splitfires) and I want to replace them with known items.
the ones I am looking at are: Bosch DR7BC, NGK APR6FS or Champion RF9YC.
Couple of questions:
1. Any recos on brand and heat range (am thinking might go one jump hotter); and
2. Where can you buy them at a reasonable price.  In Canberra no-one has them and with freight I am up for around $50AUD.
Cheers

NGK from repco. Shouldn't cost more than $4-$5 a plug

Won't someone like Repco in Fyshwick get them in for you ?. Bursons, their competition will (but I don't think they are in Canberra), as will Supercheap, providing the needed parts are on their database.

I prefer NGK and use AP5FS in the 302 - these are one grade hotter and burn a lot cleaner on premium unleaded 95.

Are you sure you need a restrictor (R) plug ?. They weren't generally used until 1971 models.

I was not sure about the temp so might give the 5 a go.  Supercheap will order in but will add freight to the price.  total price is around $54.00
I thought the R in the plug was for resistor (see here http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/docs/tech/partnumberkey.pdf) and has to do with the interference with thee radio signal- could be wrong  though.

Oops, lost the plot   meant resistor - not restrictor.

If you are running an electronic dizzy, then the resistor is no longer used right ?

I am pretty sure I am running the AP5FSs in my 302.

Cheers,
Frank.

I run NGK iridum plugs in all my motors a little more expensive but you don't need to replace them anywhere near as often.

p.s. unless you have an old tired engine use the standard heat range which i'm pretty sure is a 4. this dues make a difference when it comes to operating temperature which far alot of mustangs is a problem.
