I am not very impressed, try this link to see what speed you actually get. Mine is choked by the actual phone lines, I think.

You are only as fast as the server that you are downloading from.

Most servers cannot serve you at that speed, its only the very few that might be on the backbone of Telstra, Optus or AAPT, even then the speed is affected by traffic especially in peak hour ( Start of the business day and the end of the business day )

Try downloading from England, Europe, Asia and you will see what I mean, even the USA usually can't serve at that speed.

Don't be in a hurry to rush out and pay Telstra for these impressive stats because you will be disappointed most of the time.

Telstra have been raving about how fast ADSL2 is when it still rarely matchs a cable connection.

This is strictly my opinion.

I tried it twice, just then. The first time it was 150kb, the second time, i closed down outlook, and MSN and my ebay page, and it was 143kb?!?!

I am paying for 1500mbps, but my IP is probably over subscribed.

From AAPT for 3 megabyte about 3 seconds to download.

From the US for 3 Megabyte about 25 seconds to download.

But hey, I'm only on 512 k plan with Telstra, Cable of course.

The above should demonstrate how fast download plans can sometimes be a waste of money.

Its either Telstra or Optus.

The same cable also can supply Foxtel or Optus movies.

Unfortunately only these 2 companies can supply as they control the cable network.

Some areas have a choice of either Telstra or Optus, my street only has Telstra.

In my previouse reply I stated that I had a 512 k connection, that was incorrect.
My connection is 8mbps/128kbps unlimited download, and because I roll all my Telstra bills into one bill I pay $49 per month, I have had cable now for about 6 years and it has got cheaper in that time, I used to pay over $70 a month when I first hooked up with cable.

I can usually download far faster than any ADSL or ADSL2, so as I stated earlier, don't be in a big hurry to buy those 1500kbps plans because most of the time the servers just can't deliver those speeds. :*

Cable is definately the way to go if you can get it. :(

Optus and it costs me $32 per month with 12GB download & 24GB off peak (12am - 12pm). I'm actually paying half the normal cost due to a special unadvertised deal a couple of years back.

Evan.

Telstra are the big bully on the block.
But the don't call it BIGPOND for nothing, they are the biggest and they own the pond, everyone else is a puddle in that pond.

They all give bad phone support, try Optus, you will need minimum a half an hour or more to get to a technician on phone support.

I have had problems in regards to helping other customers with other ISP's and I usually find that they blame Telstra, I find that strange that they can't give a better explanation.

I wouldn't give you two bob for any of them but I think Telstra are the best of the bad bunch at least they sort you out in the end.

I think it all boils down to the fact that we the customer demand cheaper rates, the shareholder demands bigger dividends so the phone support now is usually handled by countries like India, you can't have your cake and eat it too.

Hey guy's, I'm new to the board but thought I would put my 2 cents worth about 1500k. I've had it for about a year now and have been very happy with my speeds as i live pretty close to the local exchange, I download on average 100gb a month and can usually get speeds about 190kbs off usenet and about 150kbs off torrents.

Telstra have finally upgraded their Adsl to 8mb plans in my area so looking to upgrade soon. As for Adsl2 prob a long way off as telstra wait for Isp's to put their own server in the local exchange.

I spose it all depends on what speed you need. Good luck.

the reason you cant d/l fast from the usa and europe is because we are capped at 250kbs (or so im told)
Also your connection may be slower than other adsl users depending on far you are from the server in your area
I have adsl2 and love it
I use TPG and have had no dramas with them
